Apologies my ss isn't clear.
Murphy has always tended to drop bg post caninsulin very sharply and rapidly, typically reaching Nadal at +3hrs.
This morning he was at 7.6. I didn't shoot and was unable to test, though my mum was able to watch him for the day and he was happy and sociable and relaxed.
This evening his bg is at 8.3. I'll test again after I've got my kids to sleep (in an hour), but if his values remain the same, should I miss tonight's injection too?
Advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

An hour and ten minutes later and after food, he's at 7.1.
Still new to this and would be very grateful of advice :):cat:

He is falling, not rising and fairly low. I would definitely skip. If he went down after eating, that is a signal his pancreas may be waking up.

Thank you Sue and Eliz. I'm so hoping his pancreas is waking up.. and so thankful for the amount I'm learning so I can properly care for him. Had a hideous virus here - fuzzy head and then some. Have found these numbers so confusing , but hoping it's a sign my boy's pancreas is well rested from a bit of a holiday.
I think I'll test next in the morning, at his usual amps time. Will be interesting to see.. his new food seems to be helping.

If you've got a sinus virus, you might see if inhaling hot air (hair dryer) seems to help it out. Most virii like cooler temps, so the heat slows them down.

I didn't know that, thank you bjm. Ill definitely try that after breakfast.. there's a sinus element, but mostly the enormous golf ball sized tonsils are the worst bit.
This morning, Murphy is at 6.4. Sorry for my ignorance, but do I simply carry on keeping an eye and not giving him his caninsulin?
Thank you.

That 6.4 is excellent, Amy! How exciting! If he can keep this up for 14 days then he'll be considered in remission.....:nailbiting:
Go, Murphy!!!

Yes, continue testing at his normal shot times.
And it can be worth testing before feeding and then a couple of hours later to see if the numbers have dropped in response to food.
Mini meals (rather than fewer larger meals) can help stimulate the pancreas without overloading it with too much to do at any one time.
BTW, what change did you make to his food...?

I'm sorry to hear that you're unwell though, and I do so hope you'll be feeling better soon.
Sending hugs and well wishes :bighug:

Thank you Eliz.. was just incredibly run down after the DKA, diabetes diagnosis, skin allergy nightmare. But he's doing SO well, very happy indeed :)
I stopped all dry food and changed him to granatapet (not sure how I'll financially sustain this), with almo nature (the supplementary green label food with nothing added) with added taurine, l-lysine, b12 and folate at Nadal point.
He has many mini meals during the day - which I now realise must be helping.
So hoping he goes onwards and upwards :cat:

Pmps bg is 6.3!
And Rhonda... Maybe a tonsillectomy is a delight I'll experience in my 40's too?! Turn 40 in January. Would have happily let someone remove them over the last few days.. it's quite panicky when lying down and you can't breathe properly :eek:o_O Hope you're better with them out. I'd forgotten how rotten it makes you feel.
Anyway.. So pleased this evening.. go Murphy! I'm sure now his itching has eased that it's also helping.. he's been so tolerant and patient on his road to recovery, my lovely boy :):cat:

OT: Amy, I am so grateful that I had it done! I was on antibiotics 5 times in three months for tonsillitis. Plus I was sleeping like crap! My husband says I snore much less since the surgery, and have not had a sore throat since February of last year! (Anti-jinx!!) The recovery was not fun, but not as bad (for me) as some of the things you read online. My max pain level, at five days post surgery, was about a six.

Day 3 amps, 5.6!
I think I'm a bit in shock to be honest, after the events of the last couple of months.
Eleven more days.. come on Mr Murphy Mouse! :cat:

Rhonda, I used to get recurring tonsillitis in my twenties, and almost had them out then.. hoping this is a one off, but it's reassuring to hear your story, thank you :)

Day 3 amps, 5.6!
Fantastic!:cat:

Actually just a thought, I've not told my vet about any of this. I'd better call them..
I would think your vet will be very pleased, since it could well be that remission is on the cards (fingers crossed/anti-jinx).

And maybe your vet will encourage more caregivers of diabetic kitties to hometest...?
If you'd not been homtesting you wouldn't know that Murphy is in normal numbers and would still be giving insulin at this point. I dread to think how many cats there are out there on insulin who don't actually need to be....:nailbiting:

Absolutely. If Murphy had caninsulin at any point over the last three days, I doubt he'd be with us. Especially considering how harsh caninsulin is coupled with how sensitive to it he was.
Home testing should be compulsory - it's the only way to remain responsible and properly/effectively manage a diabetic cat.

Not everyone can home test. I helped a woman with her own diabetic neuropathy, poor vision, and poor hand coordination by going over weekly and running a curve. Fortunately, he went off insulin quickly.
