Hey everyone! I'm new here, my 9 year old kitty Cali was just diagnosed with diabetes this week.

The vet and I have been playing phone tag all week and he has a Lantus solostar pen script on hold at my pharmacy until we get a chance to speak.

I called the pharmacy and they told me the price is scanning us as $401 which gave me a heart attack.

I found the Canshipmeds.com through this wonderful forum and the medicine is way cheaper.

I have a few questions if anyone can help! I live in NY, USA.

Should I go ahead and place an order for the script through the website right now?

Or should I wait and speak with my vet even though he is hard to get a hold of?

Will some vets refuse to place the script through Canadian pharmacies? I've been reading that some vets give people a hard time about going this route.

I also don't want to wait up to a month for the Canadian pharmacy order to arrive, so I was hoping I could place the order through the website right now and then when I get to talk to my vet, we could talk about alternative options that are cheaper for right now.

Sorry if my post is frazzled, I'm very overwhelmed at all of this!

There are many generic alternatives to Lantus, generally called glargine. Can you call your pharmacy and see if they have generic glargine? If not, I'd try another pharmacy. $401 is way too much to pay these days.

If you order through Mark's Marine (canshipmeds), it might take up to a week to get there, which might be too long.

Can you tell us a bit more about your kitty (name?) and how you found out he was diabetic.

US vets are prohibited from directly sending a script to an out-of-US pharmacy. If you go the Canadian route just ask your vet for a paper script and contact the Canadian pharmacy for how you can sent jit to them. Some will accept a scanned copy of the script.
