Best timing for FIRST testing of BG when suspecting diabetes

I am fostering a kitty that has some classic diabetes symptoms - we have glucosemeters in our home and I can use it to test rather than expensive vet visit. Obviously if she tests high we need to go to the vet - but if she's normal her physical condition is possibly due to poor nutrition and may improve. How long after food is OPTIMAL for her very first test to try and catch if she IS really diabetic?

if you suspect diabetes, I would suggest random tests at different times to see how the kitty is doing. and to answer your question, maybe 2-3 hours after eating.

remember one high test result does not necessarily mean diabetic. that's why several random tests will help to determine if there is a problem or not.

Another good time to test would be just before feeding. Then you can compare the fasting BG with another test an hour or two later.
