Should I feed my cat and then immediately test his glucose before i give the insulin shot??? Or should I test it before he eats....?? Or wait a little bit after he eats ?????

I have been feeding Oreo then I immediately test his glucose. In the evenings I feed him and wait like 45 mins to an hour before I test. His readings are always lower at night...I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I wait to test him.

I actually just went on Binkys page and read .....get reading first....then feed...then give insulin....

got it! this should help alot!

It's fine to do it this way too. Boo was always too impatient waiting for his food to cooperate for a test so I would let him eat first and then test. He was much less squirmy with a full belly. It made it a lot easier for both of us.

The truly important step is to make sure you have a reading before giving the insulin because you can't take that shot back once it's been given.

I just wouldn't necessarily wait 45 minutes after eating to test. And I would do the am & pm tests at about the same time relative to eating.

It takes a while for the food to digest and affect BGs. So test-feed-shoot or test-shoot-feed. Pick either way, and be consistent. The important thing is to always test first.
