We are giving insulin twice a day to a cat who is not regulated yet and have been taking his Blood Glucose around 6pm which is roughly 10 hours after his first dose of insulin for the day and 2 hours before the second. I'm not sure this is really the best time to do it but it's a three person job in our house so we do what works.

If you could only check once a day, what time would you do it?

With Lantus, the dose is adjusted based on the nadir, or lowest glucose, generally +5 to +7 hours post-shot, so that is when I would test.

See also my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for some other assessments which may help you evaluate his health, especially urine ketone testing, food and water intake and output, and if possible, dehydration checks.
