So I have the alphtrak and am quickly realizing it is not sustainable for everyday testing. I went to Walmart to buy the recommended Relion meters and test strips only to realize they've been discontinued. Which of the remaining ones are recommended? Relion Prime? Premier? Is there one that takes less blood? (I test with my kitty's paw pads, and sometimes they bleed less).

Also can most lancets be bought to match most lancing devices? (I currently have the one that came with alpha trak.

Thanks!

Waiting along with you for someone to weigh in on your question ...I know this has been discussed but I've misplaced the info ..

I don't know what the new "old reliable" meter is for everyone else, but I use the Contour Next meter and I love it. It sips the blood quickly, will give you time to add more blood if you short the strip, and while it says it needs like 0.5uL, I don't know if it actually needs that much (I've been surprised with how small the blood drop it will accept). The strips can be found at Walmart in case of an emergency, but they're spendy ($36/box of 50 the only time I ran out without backup. Lesson learned :p). I actually buy my strips in bulk from eBay from a reputable seller for around $10.75/box of 50.

Although with that being said, I've heard folks use other strips (for human meters) in the Alphatrak with success. Hopefully they can chime in too.

I don't know what kind of device the lancet device uses, but I know the one I got with my Contour Next meter fit the basic lancet design. So I was able to get cheaper lancets and still use the device (while I used it).

I, too, am happy with a Contour Next EZ. Amazon definitely the place to buy strips, I can usually get 100 for $20-$25. Considerably more at Walmart, as I in dire need once learned myself. Horrendous expensive at the pharmacy. I figure that Bayer/Ascension isn't going away anytime soon, and they have multiple meters that use the Contour Next strips.

Elizabeth, if you go to the top right of your thread and touch the magnifying glass then type in Relion it will give you lots of info from old threads from back in October where this issue was discussed ...hope that helps :)

Great, thanks all! And every one of these strips/meters will offer the same human-based reading that I can use the conversion chart on here for, correct? I'll look into Amazon for the Contour next.

If you decide on Contour Next One or EZ, I'd buy the meter starter kit from ADW. All the Amazon sellers seem to assemble their own kits and I'd rather start with the manufacturer offers. But Amazon is much the better place for more strips.

Thanks!! I did just that last night. I need to do another curve on little one and I had JUST bought 50 alphatrak strips. Those little suckers are expensive and almost out. :/

If you were using the Relion Micro, the ARKRAY strips work in them. I get them from ADW Diabetics.
