Best foods for Diabetes with IBD?

Hi again!

I was hoping to get some opinions of the best low-carb foods for cats with IBD. My cat has a very sensitive stomach and is picky. I think she only likes dry, but I'm definitely doing to try her on the wet. We tried all the Science Diet varieties for IBD and she hated them, so we finally found Royal Canin Hypoallergenic. The vet suggested to switch her to an A/D food I think. I'm pretty sure something like Friskies would make her really sick. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!

A lot of cats with IBD have issues with gluten. Sometimes it is a certain protein that can cause problems (beef comes to mind). A novel protein (one a cat has not been exposed to - rabbit, venison, duck) can may help.

Wellness grain free are popular choices for those with ibd and diabetes (chicken, turkey, turkey/salmon). Fancy feast has a number of gluten free/low carb choices: http://www.felinediabetes.com/glutenfree.htm. Evo would be a great one, as would instinct (they have rabbit and venison I believe).

If you have not looked, you can glance at Janet and Binky's chart for carbs:

Does your cat have a diagnosis of IBD, or are you just suspecting it as a possibility?
Dry food is not helpful for IBD or diabetes. It is just my opinion (and probably held by many others) that prescription foods in general are really not very good.
There is some good info here on transitioning from dry to wet:

Is your cat diabetic as well? Just asking, as sometimes a switch from dry to wet will also reduce insulin needs.

Hope this info helps.

As they say ECID,
but my civvie Scully is IBD, and I put him on the Fancy Feasts that are on the okay list for low carb and he is doing well....HOWEVER, he CANNOT eat ANY of the fish or seafood ones, he will INSTANTLY vomit.....even a sliver of it..
The one he eats the most is the turkey and giblets and the chicken and liver...
But again, I don't know if this is due to his sensitive tummy and his IBD, or maybe he just is allergic to the fish?
This is after him having been on dry foods for 14years, and switching him over..
He loves his wet, won't even go for the dry now...
Good Luck with your trials!

*since being on the wet, his coat is so much softer and healthier too*
just a sidenote
