Best foods for diabetes and kidney disease?

Hi. Diane is still in remission but has now been diagnosed with kidney disease (though we are hoping the levels were just skewed due to a potential infection....will be rechecking levels in a month after antibiotics).

I'm trying to find a good wet food that is low carb and low phosphorus levels. Everything I've seen seems so expensive. I cannot afford $100 a month on her food alone, especially with four other pets and her other medical costs.

I was looking at BFF brand but don't know much about it and didn't see it on the food chart. I feed fancy feast now but read I should get off that due to the kidneys

Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you! I guess I'm just confused regarding the phosphorous levels. On her chart I see it listed in decimal format. Other places I see it in whole numbers (150, 200, etc.), and then I also see percentages (.45% on an as fed basis....and then sometimes I see dry matter basis). I just don't understand what this all means and what numbers i should be looking for....like anything below X amount.

The numbers you see are mgs & used when nutrients are in units per 100 kcal vs % as fed or dry matter basis. It is the best way to compare one food to another because it takes calories into consideration. I am attaching a link to Tufts nutrient calculator which will provide a calculator you can use as well as a nice detailed explanation of why this is the best way to compare foods with respect to nutrients. The foods that I came up with were Weruva Steak Frites and Tiki Cat. The Tiki Cat were their chicken varieties that had no fish included. They changed the names not all that long ago and my list has the old names (Puka Puka Luau, Koolina Luau, and Mañana Grill). Many raw diets (either raw or freeze dried raw) are also lower in phosphorus.
 
Tiki cat is awesome! Definitely worth a try if she likes and is able to eat chicken :)
