best diet for my civie?

Should I feed my civie, Cera, any dry or any higher carb food? She's 17 and seems in excellent health (fingers crossed) Before Angel's diagnosis she was getting the Hills senior dry and just occasional wet food, now she gets mostly the wet. The wet would sometimes upset her stomach a bit but the low carb I've been giving her since Angel's diagnosis has been fine. (his diabetic plus other low carb wet) I have quite a lot of the Hills senior dry and the Hill's md dry, should I give her either of those or just entirely wet?

I wouldn't for two reasons. 1-there's always a chance of Angel getting the other food and it messing with her bg, 2-they can develop diabetes, kidney issue, and other problems at any age. With her being 17 you have the chance of her developing both issues. I'd feed them the same low carb wet, and see if you can return the food you have leftover. I know if you bought it from petsmart or petco no recipe cat is needed but they'll give you store credit, if you bought it at your vet they have it on file.
 
When I switched Dusty to Fancy Feast I switched Beni my civie to it too and they're both doing fine. Maybe I got lucky but both love Fancy Feast. I agree with Dirtybird, if you have the dry around, your diabetic is bound to get into it and mess him up. A small dry treat here and there might be ok but it's risky just having it around a diabetic.
 
Out of 16 only 3 are diabetic everyone here eats what the diabetics eat. Everyone improved on the diet switch. Softer coats, more energy even allergies disappeared. You won't catch me ever feeding dry to another cat. It just plain not good for them.

All 7 of my cats eat canned food. I switched all of them over when Witn was diagnosed. That was several years ago. I have had two diabetics since I lost her, but both were adopted knowing they were sugar kitties. None of my civies have developed FD. A low carb diet is healthier for everyone.
 
Have you considered trying raw food? You can make your own or purchase prepared versions - frozen, freeze dried.

You may find that a raw food diet along with the canned food is best for her.

If you feel that she needs something crunchy to eat - I use the Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw food and serve it dry. That satisfies my Buster and she gets canned the rest of the time.

When Maui was alive she ate a combination of canned (fancy feast classics), Stella & Chewy's, homemade raw food and sometimes purchased prepared raw.

Even though I don't have a diabetic, I still treat and feed my cats the FD friendly diet. I believe it's better for them overall.
 
I agree with Mel - dry food for cats is simply not good!!!

Dry food is especially bad for older cats because they are prone to UTIs and the powder on dry food sticks to the intestinal wall and can cause painful infections - I believe. I don't allow it in my house and didn't even wean my kitties from it - just plain removed it cold turkey. This meant that I had to go to a 3x/day feeding schedule but it is worth it. I use the Wellness Core canned food as their snack. It is low carb and low phosphorus and all of my cats love it.

I guess that includes the Hills MD? I have that and the Hills senior. I wouldn't feed it to Angel as it's 16% carbs. I would only sneak Cera a handful of dry if Angel wasn't in the room, but I'm best off donating it or something. Is the Purina DM ok for Cera my Civie? I'm also feeding them the gourmet pate, Bozita, and Smilla, all less than 10% carbs. (I'm in UK)

If you can do the math, you could dole out small quantities of the stuff so that tthe overall % calories from carbohydrates stayed under 10%.
