What have you been feeding him/her to bring him/her into remission? I would think you must be doing something right?

My sugarboy clarence is in diet controlled remission with consistantly low bg readings, even after feeding, with fancy feast classic pates. I would have to endorse what has been working for me. The ingrediant list isnt too bad either. An added benefit is that it is easy to find. I am probably gping to try dr lisa's home made food in the very near future for all my kitties tho.

Before he was even diagnosed with diabetes I had been free feeding him dry cat food. He also weighed a lot more then too. After being diagnosed was when I switched him to fancy feast classic -2 3 oz. cans a day. After about 2 yrs. of insulin twice a day and this feeding schedule is when he went into remission. And it's only been as of late that he's not been satisfied with his feedings and started this loud, incessant meowing all nite long keeping me awake. Even after increasing his feeding to another can of food each day.

He might have something else going on. Nighttime meowing and excessive hunger could be a sign of hyperthyroidism. Have you had that checked?

As to a different food, check out the food list from catinfo.org and look for other foods that are relatively close in carbs (Column C) to the Fancy Feast you're currently feeding. You don't want him to lose remission by feeding him something higher carb. How are his BG numbers lately?

Regarding the Food List: the % for the P, F, and C. Are the flavors with the lower numbers better then the higher numbers?-example, the savory salmon classic carbohydrate % is 61 which is lower than some of the other flavors. So would that be a better choice? I am unable to check my cat's bs. I have tried many times as well as my son-in-law. He is very uncooperative and we just can't get enough blood. I was able to weigh him tonite. He only lost 1/2 lb. since he was last weighed on Jan. 25. Prior to that he was 14 1/2 at the vet on Jan. 2nd. So although he did lose some-it isn't too much is it?

Please see my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for a number of assessments you can make to evaluate your cat. Weight and hunger, thirst, urination volume and frequency, and dehydration are checks that you may find helpful.

I feed Friskies pates to the 15 cats in my home.
