Best backup dry cat food for diabetic cat that CKD cats can have

I have 5 cats. Gizmo is my sugar baby. Sherlock and Cephas have hyperthyroidism that will be cured with I-131 treatment shortly, but will likely reveal that they are both mildly CKD. So, currently I feed my diabetic cat 3 times a day fancy feast pate mixed with Dr. Lisa Pierson's home made cat food (I may go completely to the home made, but I am not throwing out the fancy feast).

Gizmo likes to eat a lot, so I have gotten a surepet feeder that will open for all my other cats but not her.

I am looking for recommendations for a dry cat food that Gizmo can eat when/if she is going hypoglycemic. The prozinc basics sticky thread says: "making food available in the event that the blood glucose drops low adds a measure of safety, as most cats will search out food during those times." My problem is that I need to find something that Gizmo doesn't like so well that she won't eat before her shot, and something that my other cat's won't devour. Shoni, my youngest cat that has no health issues will eat wet cat food until it's gone, and then search everyone else's bowls.

I don't know of any dry cat food that would meet your needs. Nor any wet cat food that your other cat's would not devour. I don't know of any type of automatic feeder that would work either.

Instead of looking for a specific food or a feeder, how about sequestering Gizmo in separate quarters?

I could, but that seems like a short term solution. We already divide our time between the "dog allowed" space and the "cat only space" in our house. I can't imagine Gizmo would do well in a "Gizmo only space" that we only visit on at most 1/3 of our time. I would be willing to buy another "surepet pet feeder" which would only allow Gizmo in, but it has no feature of opening only at specific times, and it doesn't have an icepack built in to it. I can't imagine wasting wet food 99% of the time.

If you have Blood Tests on your 2 Hyper-T's now prior to the radioctive I-131, it should show if the Creatinine, and Creatinine/BUN is elevated. Thus not CKD then.

But as for dry food, these seem to be the only recommended in U.S
- Young Again (mail order) or Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein. There is alsofreeze dried or air dried raw such as Ziwipeak if kitty needs some crunch.

I'm new to this, but my understanding is that as the hyperthyroidism is controlled (by medication or fixed by I-131), the kidneys receive less blood flow, and you then start to see the indication of CKD, such as the creatinine and creatinine/BUN. Both HyperT cats are on medication, and on their checkup after being on meds the creatnine levels are coming up.

I also found timer feeders, but they would open for any cat. I'd love my Surepet feeder, but would like to get a timed feeder which only opens for Gizmo. Can you tell me the brand name, and I will look for one?

The microchip feeders are expensive, but worth it if you need to keep a cat out of the other cats food. I have placed my cat Cracker on a diet since he will clean out every bowl he as access to. So I have two of the microchip feeders for Chloe and Indie. You can program a feeder for one cat or several cats, depending on who you want to have access.

Thanks for looking. I'm glad I wasn't just missing the obvious somewhere. I did find one other thing:

Wireless Whiskers AutoDiet

Which /sorta/ comes close in that it recognizes which pet it is, and can "slow" feed (but not a true timer). However, it relies on the external RFID and not a microchip. My cats escape collars so fast, it wouldn't work for me.

I do like my surepet feeder that currently keeps my diabetic cat out of everyone else's food. Perhaps, I'll just buy another one of those and only put a little non-treasured cat food in it for my diabetic cat if her glucose levels are dropping and she's desperate for some kind of food.

The Culprint Flaw with the Majority of all Global World market feeders I've checked off now from U.S, to Europe, to U.K, to Japan, and to China - is that they all are for Dry Foods. And not wet foods. That's Alarming concerning the State Of The World For Kitties. Pure Vet Med Unscientifical.
