This is a continuation of the previous post concernning Benjamin:

I've tested several times today and updated his spreadsheet. It's time for his pm shot, and I just wanted to check one more time to see if 2units is still the recommended dose.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I am so appreciative of everyone spending their time to make sure Benjamin gets the best possible care!

Can you hold off for a few minutes? And test once more without feeding?
Carl

What makes me hesitate....I would have thought the number would have been higher with no shot this morning, and feel the 2u dose might still be high. We normally advise new members with limited data skip if the number is under 200. Would you be able to test tonight?
Carl

Yes, I can test all night if needed. I was concerned about it as well. Would 1.5u be better?

I was going to suggest 1.0u. You would need to test at +2 and +3 if possible. Usually by then you can have a good idea if you might have low numbers on the way.
Carl

Just so you know what it is at the start, test him now if possible?
And not to make you nervous, just prepared and aware... there's a group of stickied threads at the top of the Lantus forum. They are all full of good information that you should read. There's one on handling "low" numbers which tells you how to handle things if that ever happens and nobody is around to advise or help you out. Here's a link-

Carl

P.S. - in the morning, you will want to test and shoot 12 hours past whatever time it was when you give this shot tonight.

Edit- added correct link

Thanks, Carl. Just tested him +1 = 203. Yes, I have already read all the low number info and am prepared, but it already looks good tonight. I will test a few more times. Thanks again for all the help.

The rise should be from that latest meal. In theory the onset of the insulin should take place between 2-3 hours after the shot, with the nadir around six hours post shot. But every cat is different, as we say:-)
Carl

Oh, right. I was thinking that this morning his number didn't go up after eating, but I didn't test again until 3 hours after. I will keep testing tonight.

Hi Cindy, Jane here  (Hiya Carl!)

I can't see a profile for you yet, Cindy. If and when you get a chance, it would be terrific if you could follow these instructions to create your FDMB profile. It will help us all tremendously, because we then don't need to keep bothering you with questions about food, background, dx history etc. - that all goes in the profile, and we can all access it and help you more quickly and more safely.

I'm inclined to agree with Carl and his suggestion of tryin the 1u instead - that's a common starting dose for Lantus. If I'm reading the time-stamp on your last post correctly, you should be around (+4) in Benjamin's cycle now.

Could you get a BG test for that (+4), please?

I'd like to be sure he's doing fine. I'll check in here in a bit to see if you've had a chance to update. You're doing great!
Jane

Hi Jane,

Yes, I will set up a profile today. Sorry, I didn't see your message last night, I went back to bed.
