? benazapril for Proteinuria

@Wendy&Neko

Theodore was advised to have benzapril discontinued as no improvements were noticed actually worsened from experimenting from a simple food change.

My question is, was the dose too low? He was on Benzapril 5mg 1/4 tab twice daily... He is 13 lbs 8 oz

I am going to talk to my doctor about Semintre today which I believe is intended for cats but I am having trouble understanding, benzapril excretiates through liver and Semintre through kidneys?

Here is the link to your related post on Feline Health for more background for people: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/anemia-protein-loss-question-theodore.287724/

In that post I mentioned telimisartan which goes by the trade name of Semintra. More information on it here: https://felinecrf.org/proteinuria.htm#treatments
Scroll down for sections on benazapril dosing and telmisartan dosing.
@Wendy&Neko We got a call from the vet advising Theodore has a Microplasma parasite which could be causing the proteinuria and anemia....I suppose that makes sense with his kidney values being good...

@Wendy&Neko She is suggesting antibiotic called Pradofloxacin. She said Doxy was an option too but it could cause ulcerations so she doesn't like to use it.

She can't guarantee that is the reason for his proteinuria and anemia but feels we should hold off trying Semintra or any EDAs until we let the antibiotics run their course. Also suggested adding Petinic (already done) since Friday I believe.

I looked at some of the old posts and I don't see anyone who has had levels of Proteinuria as high as him that's why I went into panic mode....He also has terrible fur loss. We are still waiting for results for Leukemia as some results are still pending. There's apparently 3 types of micro plasmas and 1 is most likely to cause anemia which he doesn't have but he has the other two. Everything for Theodore has been "not typical" so it's difficult to understand

Oh another thing that's worth citing is a side effect of it is Splenomegaly. It's also non-regenerative anemia
