Hello,

My cat bella struggles with kidney disease as well and I give her sub q fluids from time to time to help her flush out her system. The past couple of days her blood glucose has been consistently high and I have been told she is "bouncing". I am wondering if I can give her some sub q fluids today and if that would help at all since she is peeing and drinking a lot. She is also constipated and sub q usually helps her go to the bathroom as well. Just wanted to make sure if was safe

If your vet has prescribed sub-q fluids for her then yes I am sure it’s safe to give. How much does she weigh? Is her heart in good condition? How much sub-q has been prescribed for her and when did you last give her sub-q? What is her Creatinine? BUN? Urine Specific Gravity?

I just gave sub-q to two of my cats a few minutes ago.

So I don’t know that it will help her BG go down if she is bouncing, but keeping her feeling her best and helping with constipation cannot hurt.

Christine, how far away are you from PMPS? It looks like we need to increase her dose back up to 1 unit? Can you make a post over on the ProZinc forum? I am concerned about these high numbers that don’t seem to be breaking. What else is going on with her? Ketones?

Also, are you giving MiraLax for her constipation? You really want to get a handle on the constipation for a lot of reasons (and it will also raise her BG numbers.)
