URGENT 911 ADMIN HELP

I accidentally gave my boy insulin when he was only a 9 mmol/l. What do I do now?? I gave him insulin without testing him first because he wouldn't let me and after insulin and food he was more calm so I tried again. He tested at 9 the first go and 8.7 the second. I am now terrified. What do I do? How long do I need to stay up to see if he is going into hypo? Should I try to get him to eat more?? What have I done

He is on 2.5 of prozinc and his usual preshot is 14 - 20 ish

I can't stay up with you tonight (midnight here) but I'd recommend start testing in an hour and keep posting test results here. Don't start feeding him a lot of food yet - you may need him to be hungry later. Tagging @Bandit's Mom who is often up late - different time zone.

Do you have plenty of test strips around, high carb food? Can you monitor late tonight if needed? If no to the test strips and high carb food, can you get any tonight? If not, I'd think about calling an ER vet to see if they'd be able to take him in should he begin to drop too much.

I will be around to help. How long since the shot? Don't fill him up with food. We may need him to eat a little evey hour to keep his numbers up.
Can you tell me what food you have in medium and higher carb? Do you have honey or karo?

Test an hour after the shot. If you will tell me how much time that is in, I will mak sure I check-in then.

have coffee going and am prepared to stay up as late as I need to. I have enough strips thank god, but my only high carb food is "Royal Kanin Diabetic" kibble which he just ate a small bowl of.
I tested again 30 min after and he was at 9.7, not much better.

Sorry my phone didn't alert me anyone had responded on here!!

It will be one hour in 20 minutes. So @ 12:45 my time zone.
I'll take away the food I gave him so he doesn't munch out to hard. He is a super food motivated cat tho.

The high carb should give his numbers a good kick. Lets see the +1.

Do you have honey/karo? You can add that to FF to increase the carb%. When needed, you can also apply it to a cat's gums.

You want to stock up on some MC and HC Fancy Feast flavours for the future.

Bhooma to the rescue! It'll help others help you if you can report numbers in the US format of mg/dL for blood sugars. So that 9.0 = 162.

Good luck tonight.

Definitely learnt my lesson, last time I skip testing and will be getting a hypo kit in order ASAP.
I do have honey and a syringe incase he refuses it.

Okay, I am happy we are atleast going up right now and not down. I have all his food away right now so he can't fill himself up.
Will post +2 when the time comes.

Thank you you much for being here.

I wouldn't panic... He probably got longer duration from the insulin. Just keep an eye on it,. And steer when needed. Don't fill him up too much or he might not want to eat later if he's too low. You're doing great.

I don't have any real treats unfortunately.. I am embarrassingly under prepared for this. Only treat we have is freeze dried shrimp.
He ate a 3/4 of a can of normal fancy Feast and a few kibbles of the Royal Kanin Diabetic stuff.

You have a little syrup in case you need it later?

Freeze dried would be low carb. Looks like Harold is partying hard. Must be delighted with all the food on offer :-)

Can you please remove the 911 - update your title - emergency has passed. Sounds like he's eating and you've got this under control.

Oh yay! I wasnt sure if I should wait another hour and make sure he is going up. Thank you so much for staying with me for this and providing advice. Literal life saver Harold and I very much appreciate you, and everyone else who helped tonight!
