Beethoven is gone

Yesterday's post http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=50045

This is the hardest post to write. Beethoven is gone. Apparently he had cancer on his lung, which had been growing for some time, but it seemed very sudden. Cats are such masters at masking serious illness until it has advanced to the critical point. The blood accumulating in his thoracic cavity is what was restricting his breathing. After many updates and talks with the vet throughout the day, we made the decision to let Beethoven go. Surgery would have been enormously stressful for him at this time and possibly fatal, and the likelihood of success was very low. We just couldn’t put him through it.

When I last saw him, he was curled up comfortably in the oxygen chamber—able to breathe more easily following the removable of so much fluid.

Ironically, the vet clinic is only about two blocks from the shopping center parking lot where 11 years ago a skinny, hungry, flea-infested white kitty approached DH, jumped into his car and tore into a bag of peanuts sitting on the floor. Beethoven knew what he wanted and that was a home with us.

Thank you so much for the hugs and words of support. They mean so much to me. The people on FDMB were here when we needed you and helped us go OTJ 20 months ago. I know that never could have happened without your help. It has given us many months of good health and love.

I am so sorry for your loss .. It is never easy to let them go, no matter how long we have them .. hugs from us to you ..

Fly free beautiful Beethoven. You chose well all those years ago when you picked your mom and dad.

Now they have given you the greatest gift of love, they freed you from your pain, and took into their own hearts.

May memories of happier times comfort you during the difficult days ahead.

I'm so sorry Ruth. I'm glad that he was resting and breathing more easily toward the end. You were kind not to let him suffer.
What a neat story about how he found a home with you... and peanuts.
His life seemed to have gone full circle as he returned to a place near where he found your DH.
Lots of warm thoughts and hugs to you today. (((((Ruth & DH)))))

So, so sorry for the loss of your sweet boy. I know too well the pain that comes with that decision. Holding you close in my heart as you mourn the loss of sweet Beethoven.

(((((Ruth)))))) I am so sorry. It is a sad day here at FDMB today :( If love was enough he would have lived forever. He was meant to be part of your loving family - he was waiting for your husband that day. He takes the love you showered on him with him and will be with you in spirit always. Sending you and family lots of hugs.

Ruth, my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your beloved Beethoven. You did the right thing for your boy. They really can hide lung cancer that by the time we find it usually it is always too late. My heart goes out to you.........we all know how much you will miss him.

Oh Ruth, I am so sorry I missed your previous posts. I am grieving your loss of handsome Mr. Beethoven.
I feel a real connection to you two as your baby and my baby raced to OTJ at the same time.

Hold his love and memories close in your heart and know that he will always be near.

Much love and hugs

As I read and cry for your loss, I am also wanting to remind you to spend some time reflecting on the wonderful memory of his first day with you!
Fly free Mr. Beethoven and say Hi to my Gumpy girl, keep her safe til we all meet again! rb_icon

I am so sad for you and family. I know that it is the hardest decision you have to make in the entire lifetime of a loved pet. Take solace in the fact that had he not been at the exact right place and time to steal peanuts from DH, he would never have lived the wonderful life you gave him. Nor would you have received 11 years of love from him. Beethoven will live in your hearts forever. Thank you for sharing the story of how you came together.

(((Ruth)))

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Beethoven. I loved reading about how he found his home with you. Just as he trusted you in the beginning, he trusted you at the end to make the kindest and most difficult decision for him. Fly free, Beethoven. You were loved.

I'm so sorry, Ruth. To lose him so suddenly is such a shock. He is free from pain and sickness now, chasing butterflies at the Bridge with the others that have gone ahead. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Ruth there are no words that can express how saddened we are at the loss of your beloved Beethoven.

Fly free sweet Beethoven, you are much loved and will be sorely missed.

((((Ruth & DH))))

I am so sorry for your loss. Beethoven picked his beans well. He will never be far - he will remain in your heart forever.

Fly free Beethoven and land softly. Those who love you are missing you. Those who are at the Bridge with you will keep you happy until you are with your beans once again.

((((((((RUTH))))))))))) I am so so sorry for your loss of beautiful Beethoven!! He was a wonderful boy & made you so happy for many years! You gave him a beautiful life, and he gave you the same..
My civvie Copper went GA in May and also had lung cancer & we didnt know either till the last month...
I know the heartbreak and the deep sense of loss you are feeling--by such a sudden departure!
Think of the wonderful time you had together, how happy you made each other & believe me you will hear from him--Since Copper passed, he has left us 8 feathers, most are white, & sometimes they fall from the sky right in front of us or in front of the door!-One I found in my refrigerator!!
So I do believe that Love Never Dies..May you be comforted by the love & happy memories of Beethoven..
You will be together again one day..

((((((Ruth))))))
I remember when Beethoven was just going OTJ, I was fairly new here.
I am so sorry Ruth. ((((((hugs)))))

Take good care of yourself.

((Ruth)) I'm so sorry to see that Beethoven has left you - physically that is because the love and memories you've shared will remain with you forever in your heart. What a handsome boy he was. And smart too - he found you so long ago and knew he would be safe and loved in your home and arms.

It's so difficult to say goodbye to these little ones who come into our lives so unexpectedly and give us so much. But you in return gave him love and peace and safety - which is all they ask for.

My heart goes out to you in your sadness - they leave such a hole in our hearts and lives. Know that we share your sorrow in saying goodbye.

((((((Ruth)))))) Fly Free , Sweet Beethoven. wings_cat You gave him such a beautiful life and he enriched yours in return.

Ruth,

I am so sorry that you lost your Beethoven. I loved the story on how he jumped into the car and took you into his heart. May remembering your happy times help you through this sad time. It is never easy no matter how it happens. The important thing is to remember how happy he was and how much he was loved.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. :YMHUG:
