Hi everyone!! It has been a long time since I last posted. I wanted to say hello because I missed this wonderful community, and I have some happy news to share!

Last month, I adopted another extra-sweet kitty who was posted on DCIN's facebook page and was already past her deadline to be euthanized at the shelter. Thanks to an incredible bunch of people--the foster who pulled her from the shelter, DCIN's travel specialist, and an anonymous donor who paid for her freedom flight--she made it safely home on Easter.

In a stroke of luck, we were able to get her previous vet records. From what I can tell, she was diagnosed in January. She was immediately started on insulin (with no specification in the vet records of what kind, or what dose!) with no diet change. She was on VERY high carb food (Hills w/d). Her BG was in the high 200s to high 300s on her first day home. I switched her to FF classics immediately and got to testing. Within 3 days, she was never getting above 120. On day 10, she was officially OTJ.

To those of you coming to this forum for the first time, please know that a diabetes diagnosis isn't--and shouldn't be--a death sentence. It can be as simple as changing what you feed! Sure, sometimes it isn't the easiest thing in the world; Winnie is still on Lantus and likely will be forever, but she is SO worth it. Please don't give up before you try everything!

Here are some gratuitous pictures of Lily (FKA Snowy): first in the shelter, and second at home with me! She is the sweetest girl.

What a lucky kitty she is to have found you! :)
I'm the lucky one :) It's all thanks to DCIN for sharing urgent cats who would otherwise be sentenced to death for an illness they can't help.

Lily is beautiful! What does Winnie think of her new sister?
Thank you! Winnie seems to like her. When Lily is asleep, Winnie sneaks up on her and starts grooming her. (Lily is deaf, so she's easy to sneak up on.) Lily doesn't appreciate it too much. They squabble sometimes, but they're getting along better every day.
