Hello all, I was using BCP PZI since IDEXX went off the market, that was until Feb 2014. I had a horrible issue happen with a new vile of BCP PZI
My kitty crashed for the first time since her food change in 2005, I was not aware of what was going on but took her to the vet and found she was
dropping fast and had to be put on a glucose Drip she hit 29 BG levels.. she hit a rebound for sure and sky rocketed up to over 600 it wouldn't register on the test meter, so of course I freaked out and gave her a tiny bit more insulin, wrong thing to do... I really do think the BCP PZI I got was not mixed right and I got a stronger version of a U40 BCP PZI ... I called and wrote the company telling them to test it and they said all of that lot has been sent out already and I said you are going to kill everyone's cats.. she assured me this was not the case.. told me I was over reacting and shewed me away off the phone. :-x

SO love to hear from anyone who uses BCP PZI and got some U40 BCP PZI early in the years.. they sent me a new one but I was NOT going to risk it and bought prozinc from my vet instead. I can actually keep this prozinc longer so its a wash money wise.. Thanks for any replies..

Wow! Not very many people here use BCP though people have in the past and I don't remember any issues. Wonder if they mixed up 40U and 100U batches? They make both strengths.

Are you home testing? If not, you would avoid another low by picking up a meter and test strips, and testing before shots, as well as testing frequently through a few cycles to see if the numbers are not dropping too fast... testing will help you know when to take action by giving higher carb food and/or karo to bring up the numbers.

She started on insulin in 2003, so yes finally started home testing in early 2005 after finding this website. Shes still on PZI today, I didnt home test first few years 2003-2005 but also used the food my vet suggested so no close calls (I think anyway), once I found this website and changed her food I did start home testing.. 11 years is along time for a baby girl to be on insulin I am so lucky and thankful I found this site in 2004 or I know I would have lost her years ago !!! .. thanks!!

Sue, that is exactly what I thought! It did seem to drip her BG down double of what a unit did for her before.. with my curves and food I feed 1 unit of BCP PZI would drop her about 100 BG point average so I Knew if she was 350 2 units was a ok for her, not with that batch I got early in the year this time it was doing OVER DOUBLE that.. so yeah I bet that is what happen and like I said I did try to tell them. THANK GOD I switched to prozinc, when I started the BCP PZI they had not came out with prozinc yets....
