BCP PZI Insulin giving me a headache!

Okay so at 830am this morning Pooper's glucose was 384. +4 hours later after giving him 2 units of insulin it is still saying 384. Why would his number still be the same at +4? Makes me wonder if this insulin is even that great or made for Pooper's damn stubborn body? I know I read somewhere someone said that the longer a cat stays in the high range the more a cat can become insulin resistant. Go figure that is probably what is happening with Pooper's since I started this Friday he hasn't gotten any good numbers. Atleast with N he would drop down into healthy range but I know he would then go right back up. You guys I know will tell me to be patient and I am trying but I would have though he would be producing better results as I do not believe a glucose higher than 300 is considered healthy one bit. His pancreas can't heal and therefore I thought this darn insulin was made to work. So far he has received a total of 10.5 units of insulin from BCP PZI and yet he continues to just stay in the 300s while sometimes creeping down to around 260. Probably going to have to switch insulins once again. Patience young grasshopper, patience I know. lol
 
Yup...patience patience patience....easier said than done I know lol.

Two quick questions.....

Are you rolling the insulin (not shaking) before drawing the dose out?

Did you get all other possible health issues ruled out? Teeth, UTI any other possibilities.
 
Yes I roll it with my palms for like 20 secs and then flip it upside down and do it for like 10 secs. I don't see other problems that isn't anything new compared to before. I mean his glucose was dropping with the N so if he wasn't responding to insulin then it wouldn't have dropped his insulin on N. Its just being stubborn with this insulin and not budging at all.
 
I honestly do not want to switch insulins because I am an underdog and well this insulin is close to a cats insulin as possible so I won't back down but I would love to see results though any day now. Low 200s would be a start and 100s to follow. I know that in about 10.5 hours time his insulin only went up a little over 100 points all night. If it was with N it probably would have went from 100s to the 400s by morning.
 
I would just keep gradually increase the dose and see what happens. Some cats regulate easier than others.My Badger, who I adopted in July is still not regulated. I get PSs that very from below 100 to HI. He seems to gradually getting better regulated. I have tried Levemir, Lantus, N, BCP PZI and ProZinc. Patches II, on the other hand is doing great. I adopter her in late December and I can almost always keep her below 150 all day with about 1 1/2 units of Lantus.
 
It was two weeks before I saw consistent numbers for B Bear but soon after dropped rapidly and we went from 4.5u bid to 3u bid or lower. He tends to go 16hrs instead of 12hrs as expected and sometimes longer...
but if his BG goes below 200, he shows signs and acts like he is hypo. All kitties are different and some have other issues too.
If he doesn't respond, you might want to rule out Hyperthyroidism.. I hope this helps :)
 
Okay maybe someone can explain this to me... He has been at 384 all day long. I just got done checking his BG and it was still at 384 which is +8 from the last time I tested him. I was busy today so this was when I could test him.. I am beginning to wonder if 2 units is not enough for him?
 
You have held that dose for 5 cycles now and since he is remaining high and flat, you can raise the dose 0.5 units. I'm just curious though since you're getting the exact same number, have you tried testing yourself to make sure the meter is reading right?
 
I'm beginning to wonder if your meter is working right. In 10 weeks, I never saw the same number two tests in a row. Not even if I did two tests within a minute or less of each other.
 
I do not believe my meter is the problem because it has been working fine all this time. I am going to test Poopers again around 1130 +3 hours since his shot to see where it is at. If it still says 384 then I will start to question something is going on.

Testing on yourself pre and post meal should help give you an idea if your meter is working and it involves less poking of your cat. If you have wonky blood sugar perhaps a family member or friend will loan you a bit o' blood.
