Hi all. Looking to see if there are any sitters around BC, Canada (we are in the Lower Mainland) or any sitters you may recommend around this area.

We are hoping to establish a connection with a sitter for the future, in case we ever need to be out of town, so that Niko can still get his injections and BG testing.

We were considering asking our vet clinic to see if any vet techs do house-sitting but thought I'd ask here first.

Many thanks!

This is the wrong place to seek a sitter.
Post under Community/Pets in your LOCAL Craig's List; contact vets in your area; post on Facebook and/or Nextdoor.

Waving to you from across the border !!

I have a great sitter, but she only does the North Shore. She's also already quite busy. I'd recommend trying the vet clinics in your area. They might even have a bulletin board where people post vet services. I've used vet staff before and been happy with them - one was the clinic owner's daughter. A friend went away for a month and got a clinic staff person to look after his diabetic.

Another option, our local community association has a webpage of services provided by locals, and includes a house and petsitter list.

You can also ask neighbors who they use for pet sitters (not necesssrily looking for vet techs) —many sitters are either vet techs or have training in doing things like giving fluids or insulin because of other clients.

long before his diabetes diagnosis I had a sitter recommended by a neighbor when I moved here—turned out she’s a senior vet tech who manages the staff at an ER (not the one closest to me)—and when I needed help but she was going out of town she asked one of her coworkers who was happy to come by.

edit: another great source is any local TNR group, shelter, or the feral feeding ladies (I see them on Nextdoor or they leave flyers up often in pet stores looking for volunteers)—some may sit on the side or know someone who does

thanks so much for the suggestions! currently trying to build some rapport with the local sitters in my area. lots of them are willing to learn how to check BG levels, which is a relief.
