Many of you may remember last week during my frustration of high PS I talked about changing insulins. I am getting low on Baxter's bottle & thought now would be the time to switch of thats what I'm going to do. I just wanted to update you on my research & my decision.
Last week I took a whole afternoon calling around trying to find PRoZinc from pharmacies. Costco for one. I called all of the Houston stores again. I even called in Dallas. No luck. My brother & his family are coming to visit me next week & thought if it was available in Dallas he could bring it with him.
I remember in a post in health someone mentioned Target in some markets are caring pet meds. Dallas again is one of those markets. I called Targets no luck not even with ordering it.
So all this lead me to start calling different vets in my area with the thought of switching to another insulin. I don't want to really go into Houston to a vet because if I have emergency with Baxter I don't want to have a long commute. Plus, in Houston traffic...you never know.
I called the vets in my area & ALL of the vets support ProZinc. Some of their prices are less then what I paid with Baxters current vet $140. One of the vets I called I really liked. I am seriously thinking about switching vets. It's closer, their ProZinc is a little cheaper. The vet tech I spoke to was so helpful & nice. The only thing is they support Purina DM diet for their FD patients. I can get pass that though. The vet tech mentioned they would want to do a BG curve. She sounded impressed when I told her I do my own curves & home test 4-6 times daily. I told her I have all his numbers recorded & could bring those in. One other reason I kind of want to switch vets is because its closer. I'm thinking the vet techs might even live in my town & be closer & more willing to want to be hired to take care of Baxter. I really need to go back home to Okla. training DH I don't think is going to happen.
So in short I'm not switching to another insulin. PZI is stuck with Baxter & I. We might be switching vets though. I would like to meet the vet first & speak with her. I will update you if & when that happens.
We are here to stay! ;-)
