Hello everyone. We rushed Bam to the ER vet this morning. He ate his breakfast like a champ and then he began vomiting and having black/bloody diarrhea. He was clearly uncomfortable and in pain. They tested for ketones and it was negative. All other tests were fine. Vet believes he had something going on that was unrelated to the diabetes. Many possible theories but they wanted to do extensive tests and even referred us to the UW Madison veterinary school about an hour away. At almost 16 years old, we did not want to put Bam through all that. We will miss our little buddy terribly. He was a bit of a bada$$ as a young cat and grew into a wonderfully affectionate adult who always greeted us at the door. He was talkative and stubborn and very persistent about his feeding schedule.
I want to thank everyone on this site for helping us these last few weeks. I was really starting to get the hang of it and actually enjoyed learning about feline diabetes and how to help Bam at home. Once we started home testing and changed his food he put on weight and looked healthier. He was doing really well this last week, more active and social than usual. I wish everyone the best of luck in treating their kitties. This is a great group with an unbelievable amount of information and experience. I see there is a grief support thread so I will be checking that out as well.
Peace,
Jill and Dan A.
