Hi guys,
Sorry ive been away for so long.
Ive had a busy few months. Im now 31 weeks pregnant (on my own .....long story but im happy as i thought i couldnt have children.) And im about to move house in 8 days. Along with that ive got my sugar boy bailey to keep safe. Hes never ever going to be well regulated but hes doing ok.hes well in himself.his fructosimine this time was great. I test when i can which is a few times day and night and as long as hes happy and healthy i know were doing ok.

Theres only ever been me and him and have lived in the flat were in for his 10 years. so im worried sick how hes going to be with the whole situation.im glad weve got the move first and hes got a few weeks grace before my little girly arrives. Has anyone got any advice on 1, how to deal with the move. (Ive thought im going to shut him in the bathroom at the flat with all his things whilst i move everything into our new house.once everything is in.il move him.last. the other thing i must tell u.its been completley redecorated and recarpeted ready for our move so itll b very new smell wise for him)

Then of course how on earth will he be with a new baby. Any advice would b gratefully recieved

I dont do things by halves......new baby, house move, xmas , and a sugar baby. X

.....and to all of you and our sugar babies.heres to a happy and healthy 2016!!

Happy New Year to you too, and congratulations on the new arrival to your family :)

I would get him micro-chipped, just in case. I've never had a human baby, but I would imagine that you would want o get him used to things first (like the play pen, and crib) and if possible new baby smells (like putting a used infant onesy on a doll and letting him sniff it). I would make sure to continue the attention on him, although it will be hard with a new baby.

I am so excited for you. I hope everything goes perfectly, and Bailey is your daughter's best friend and protector.

Congratulations on the new baby!! So exciting!!

Babies bring a whole new level of stress, and fun!, to the equation. Babies also have a lot of new smells that Bailey can smell but you can't. Diapers (nappies) have a scent to them...even the unscented. Diaper cream has a smell to it. Go ahead and get Bailey used to smelling it. Go on YouTube and find some video/audio of a baby crying so it isn't a brand new sound when the baby comes home. If you can, get someone to bring the blanket they wrap the baby in to your place before the baby comes home. I don't think you all stay in the hospital in the UK as long as we do in the US. I would invest in a diaper genie because it'll keep that's dirty diaper smell contained - although it is no worse than a dirty litter box. The smells are going to be the biggest thing. Are you switching to a baby laundry detergent (we didn't)? Go ahead and do some loads of laundry in it. If you have the crib and/or room the baby will be in, let Bailey go on in to explore.

Quite honestly, Bailey will probably ignore the baby. Cobb did. He sniffed Matty a few times and walked away. He was completely unimpressed, but we did all of the above so maybe it prepared him.

I'm so excited for you! Don't stress at all. You'll find a new normal and not remember how life was before a precious baby and sugar cat duo!!

Yes suzanne he slept on the babys crib for a while until he got bored.same with the bouncer chair. No i wont b switching detergents unless necessary.
I guess i just worry for my babys sake AS WELL as baileys. Itll b a learning curve. Ha

Congratulations Anna! I am so happy for you. :bighug: I was wondering how you were doing.

I can't help with the baby, sounds like Suzanne has great advice, but have suggests on the move. It's just like taking a cat home from the shelter. Give him his own space where he has a bed, food, litter box, toys, that can be his "safe" zone, hopefully quiet or maybe with a radio on to mask any moving sounds. Make sure his space has some stuff in it that has the smells he is used to, as well as a used shirt of yours with your smell. Try leaving him there until the move is done. At that point, it's really up to the cat. Neko wanted out to explore as soon as possible. Civie Theo took ages before he's venture out of his safe space. We kept the door closed for weeks and just visited him there - but he was a semi feral.

You can scent the new place with Feliway Comfort Zone spray or diffusers if available in the UK.
Also, take things like blankets, which smell familiar, and after furniture and boxes have been moved, and before he gets moved, spread those blankets around the new place in 1 room where you're going to start him out. Give him some time to get used to that 1 room before letting him into others.
Training him on a cat harness before the move and placing one on him the day of the move will help keep him safe. I've heard stories of movers who didn't pay attention to signs saying 'DO NOT DISTURB' on the room with the cat. If you can get stuff out of 1 room in which you can confine him, and tape/barricade the door so they can't get in easily, that will help keep him safe.
Or maybe board him at the vet for the day, so you'll be sure he is safe.

Gosh, but you've got a lot happening, Anna!

That's one lucky baby about to come into the world to such a loving and caring mum.

Wishing you all a very, very happy New Year in your new home.

Congratulations on the coming birth of your daughter. I am very happy for you.
You have had some great suggestion above.
For the past 12 years I have looked after my 7 grandchildren as they came along, from the age of three months 5 days a week. During all that time we had Sheba and her pal Max (GA) plus two dogs.
I did have a gate up for the dogs at the laundry door but the cats had the run of the house.

As each baby arrived I introduced the cats to him/ her. I made sure the cats did not sleep in with the babies, but once they got older they had the cats in the beds with them. I did teach all the kids that they must be kind to animals and I reinforced that often.
I'm sure Sheba's eyes rolled every time a new one turned up .....what another one...where are they coming from?; but Maxie just adored them and would always be found near them and if they were on the floor, he would be right next to them. He is in so many of the photos because he was always there! As they grew he became their constant companion. They all loved him.
Both were rescue cats and Sheba had had her eyes poked at by the boy in her first house......why the mother didn't stop him I don't know...but they gave up the cat instead!!! Sheba took longer to trust the kids because of that but after a while she would hang around too instead of keeping away. Now she loves them. They can all test her BSL and she loves sitting on their laps.
I'd give Bailey lots of attention when you get home with the baby and make him feel he is part of it all.
Good luck with it all.:)

Just to let you all know.stage one gone better than i could have expected. Bailey has done amazing at adjusting to our new house.hes never been upstairs in his life so that was a new thing for him to get used to but i know hes ok wen he sleeps on his back, legs in the air, snoring away.he was so anxious the first night.hissing and booing at me but he came round really quickly. Hes doing fabulously well. I had to reduce insulin with him hardly eating the first 2 days but hes eaten great today.
Weve got 8 weeks b4 he has to get used to new arrival but if he adjusts to her tge way he has to this we'll all b ok. :-)

Oh wow, Anna, I've just seen this thread.
Huge congratulations! I'm sure you'll make a great mum! :bighug:
And you must be pleased that Bailey is already showing signs of settling into his new home.
Please keep us updated with how things go. And don't forget to post pictures of the new arrival...

Hugs,

Eliz x
