? Back paw pads dry and crusty

None of my 20 diabetics have had that. How is the litter box? is the little deep enough so that Kierra does not have to stand in urine?
 
I probably made it sound worse than it is. I noticed they are rougher, dryer, somewhat scaly and not as soft as the front paw pads but not terribly so. I use large totes for litter boxes and 4" of litter. The cats jump in and out of it (the sides are 19" tall). She has always preferred to stand when she urinates and I have wondered if that is because of the weaker hind end. I took her into the vet for a back leg limp when she was 6 years old (she is 9 years old now) and

he said it was neuropathy. Now I wonder if she didn't have some level of the diabetes going on back then. Here is a pix of her hindlimb paw.

There are contradictions in the above like one say uses vaseline (petroleum jelly) other says do not.

I wouod try moisturizing both topical and fish oil in diet.
