Vet took blook and urine, will have results monday. Vet felt a slightly enlarged thyroid gland by throat,
and said he needs a dental cleaning. Buddy lost 2 lbs since last visit 3 years ago. Feeling anxious about test results on monday.
Here's hopeing my Buddy boy will be healthy another 10 years, he's only 16 ;-)

Sorry - don't know why I said "she" in the other thread - must have been tired.

Hope all will be fine. Dose the vet think he will be ok to have a dental soon? Or waiting for test results?

Good question, not sure. Vet will call on monday with results ; I will ask her then. I think she will probably want to do it sooner than later.
She showed me some red gums (inflamation) I hadn't noticed. I know it will help buddy's #'s , so i don't really want to wait,
although waiting will help financially.
Do you think it is important to ask for an anathisiologist , given his age (16.5) ?

Marcy -

If you're in a metro area (which it seems you are), you may have better access to an anesthesiologist... in a city of 50,000, the tech that does the dental at my vet probably is the one who administers it. Actually, I'm not sure. Maybe the vet does it.

Someone mentioned that they can do a sedation first, then anesthesia for the actual procedure. I mentioned this to my dental tech, and she said that's the standard procedure. Once they sedate them, they can get them prepped for the procedure without having them dive off the table, bite, etc.

If there's inflamation, your vet may want to start some antibiotics before doing the procedure. I want to say my tech said they use Clyndemyacin (???) afterwards. It probably would be good to ask those kinds of questions before you go for the procedure. There are a lot of different ABs that may not be effective for dentals. Someone on health may be able to provide some additional info.

Good luck!
