I stopped looking at this group last August when I lost my beloved Simon. He had been very challenging as had IBD, put on steroids which caused him to be diabetic. His diabetes was extremely difficult to manage as he was such a poor eater and frequently vomited. He refused all low carb foods (would rather starve!) and his erratic intake made diabetic control extremely challenging. Sadly, right in the midst of our horrific wildfire season here in BC last summer, the stress of our being evacuated for a wildfire caused him to totally crash and fail, and in the midst of the chaos, he crossed the rainbow bridge. It was too painful to be here so I signed off.

Fast forward to Jan of this year, and our elderly barn kitty (now house cat) developed all the classic signs. Yup, diabetic too. Thankfully I still had all the insulin, test strips etc from Simon. Transitioning this guy onto a diabetic regimen has been a breeze. Not a fussy eater, so took the low carb food no problem. A bit less cooperative than Simon wrt testing but will still allow it. Couldn't care less about injections. BG really well controlled on 0.5 unit lantus twice a day (consistently range 5-6). Compared to Simon, this guy has been super easy. Thank goodness.

The reason why I am back here as we are now running out of the 3/10 ml 1/2 unit marked syringes and I just sent hubby to get some more. He was just advised by the pharmacist at Costco that the company (BD) is no longer making them. Has anyone else heard this? I am located in Canada so we don't have the less expensive type of syringes that Walmart carries in the US, here.

I just bought the bd ones at Walmart (I am in BC too) on Tuesday. They also carry them at Rexall if you have one near you. Maybe we need to start hoarding them if this is true. I have used some Elimedical ones I bought on Amazon.ca but I didn't like them as much.

Thanks. I was going to try Rexall next. It is disappointing to hear that BD might be discontinuing them as they are definitely the "go to" for us pet owners!

Contact the manufacturer. It's possible it's a supply chain issue. Years ago, the syringe manufacturer that I loved (Terumo) stopped making diabetic syringes so it happens.
