I just found out that the B12 I've been injecting is cyanocobalamin. I started to research it a bit and found out that methylcobalamin may be better? I am not that technical and can not really understand if the one I am using is "bad" or just not the preferred? I want to help poor Rudy, not hurt him. Does anyone know in simple terms what the difference is or why you would use one over the other?

Thank you :-)

Hi Karen. I have read that many here do inject the same B12 that you use to help with energy, appetite, etc. If you are looking to help with diabetic neuropathy, then you will want to use the methylcobalamin type like Zobaline. You can buy the pill form at Vita Cost (www.vitacost.com) or iLifeLink. Here is the link to iLifeLink: http://www.ilifelink.com/zobaline-for_diabetic_cats-3_mg_x_60_tablets.html

I have also used Methyl B12 at GNC and their corporate office assured me that there is no sugar added however the pills were really hard to crush even with a mortar/pestle.

Thank you! I am looking to help with appetite and arthritis. He has tolerated the b12 injections just fine with no issues so far for the past 6 months, then I read a stupid article that scared me and I started questioning everything. He was on zobaline a while ago, but it really didn't help him with anything, so we stopped using it. I wonder if it would be ok to use both? or if that is good for arthritis? I don't think he has neuropathy because he has been in remission for 3 months already- I think it is really just old age.....

The difference between cyano and methyl B is that the system has to convert the cyano into the methyl form before it can be metabolized. There is also scuttlebutt about residual trace amounts of cyanide from the cyano form of B12 but I can't vouch for the reliability of that thought process. Cyano B12 is not "bad" it is just not the preferred form.

We used Zobaline 2x a day, plus B12 shot once every 2 weeks (increased frequency when he was sicker), and Cosequin together. I like the Zobaline a lot, but the shots were just in case.
