Suki has had the most awful smelling diarrhea the past 3 days-it stinks up the whole house to the point I almost throw up, its that bad. I'm concerned all of this wet food is too much on her system. She has IBD-has had it her whole life. She had diarrhea the 1st 6 months after I adopted her and it took tons of testing and a depo shot to stop it. The past 9 yrs vomiting and some diarrhea if I gave her anything other than dry food. Her numbers have been higher the past couple days too.

I made appt w vet tomorrow and will bring in stool sample but I think its more the food than anything.

You can add 1/8 teaspoon of plain psyllium powder (ex unflavored Metamucil) to help soak up the excess water and give more form to the feces.

A daily probiotic such as Intelliflora, Forti Flora, or a teaspoon of plain yogurt with active cultures may help, too.

I have been feeding the same foods as usual-I rotate them so they don't get sick of them but the same ones as the past month or more.
Her poop has been smelling awful though since the wet food, and my other cat's breath has gotten way worse too. The smell of the wet food is bad enough, especially since I'm vegan! but its even worse coming out of them!

Maybe it's one of the foods specifically? You could try an elimination diet and remove one brand from rotation for about a week or so and see if that clears the smell. If not, remove another brand from rotation, rinse and repeat.

It could even be caused by the protein type, like beef or seafood. What's the protein base of the dry food? Try sticking with those flavors exclusively for a bit and see if it helps.

Any update? We've got the same issue. I've dewormed several times and used drontal, so don't really think its worms. I'm going to try adding the psyllium. Any thoughts about how much to give five month old kittens, weighing around three pounds.

I'd go with mixing up the food w/ 1/8 teaspoon for all, then portion it out. Better to start low and slow.

And maybe check with your vet.
