Yesterday, I tested Pokey before his vet appointment. His number was 96. When we got to the vet, we weighed him. He went from 16.5 lbs on Sept 24 to 15.7 lbs. The tested his blood and their number was 125. Not too bad. Way better than 400. We got home and waited for his regular vet to check his chart. I had to go by the vet's office to get food for dinner so I stopped in to talk to his vet face-to-face. The vet was surprised in his fast improvement. He told me Pokey was doing great and that I was doing a beautiful job caring for him. He told me to keep doing what I'm doing. Keep feeding him a can of Friskies a day and monitor his BG daily. We go back in 30 days for another vet BG test and weigh-in. If he remains in normal range, we can just give him a copy of the log-book every 30 days. I am able to test him on my own thanks to Dian and Deb. This morning was a wash-out though. He wanted nothing to do with the test. He wanted his breakfast. I let him be after a few failed tries and one test that almost had enough blood. I will test him before lunch instead today. At least his number was a 76 last night, so I know he came back to normal.
Thank you all so very much. You have made this stressful time easier to deal with. I have learned so much in a small amount of time. I am truly blessed and grateful that this site exists and to have the improved health of my best friend.
