Woohoo her second yellow preshot number and on .5u!!!

Not only is she a nice sunny yellow this morning, she is out and about with all the other kids, still hissing at them if they get too close but at least she is out and wandering around checking out her new digs.

Oh can she talk...okay not so much talk as DEMAND!! She has already figured out that when she gets tested she gets fed, smart girl this one, so when it is time to test she comes sits by me and demands in a very loud voice that it is now time to test and FEED her. Her drinking is way down and much closer to normal, her appetite is still off the hook but then again she has a lot of weight to gain back, but I have scaled her back to 4 meals a day now, even if she is still wolfing down 1/2 a can of Friskies at each meal.

Monday morning she goes into the Vet's finally to get shaved and just have a general checkup, so she can be rechecked for dehydration, and make sure her UTI is gone. I had to chuckle when I was talking to the receptionist (new girl) at the vet clinic, at first they were talking about running a curve on her, and I was telling her that it wasn't necessary, she of course was arguing the point when she finally got frustrated with me and handed the phone to Kim ( the old receptionist). Well Kim has dealt with me a lot with Maxwell & Musette, when Kim realized who was on the phone, she laughed and told the new girl..."she's right no curve needed she will provide that as well as a link to Autumn's spreadsheet...This is the woman WE CALL, when we have a new diabetic patient, just schedule Autumn for a shave and a urine check"

LOL, funny story about the vet receptionist. Many vet personnel (including vets) can't seem to fathom that home testing not only removes the need for office testing but is better. (Or that client in some cases know more than the pros, but that's another story. :))

Glad to see Autumn is doing so well, especially with the stress of adjusting to a new home and new roommates! And that she's already figured out testing = treats/food. Salem does the same thing - I take out the treats jar and he goes right over to his testing spot and lies down. Cyclone did that too. Cats are pretty smart.

Go Autumn!

Oh they know me well at my vet's, I work for them part-time as kennel help, and they do call me when they have a newly dxed FD cat. I've trained them all on how to do ear pokes, so when they get a new client with a diabetic kitty they call me to come in and show that client how to monitor at home, and give shots. That was how I knew it had to be the new girl in the office when I called to get Autumn her first appointment, any of the others wouldn't have even brought up the idea of a curve they would have just asked if I had a spreadsheet set up for her and could I email them the link...lol. But the new girl they just hired is fresh out of school and is still very by the book so to speak, she hasn't quite figured out that some of the clients actually test at home yet, or that my vet's now promote home testing, the only time they run a curve in the office is when the cat is first there being treated or if we have one for boarding....and I'm usually the one that comes in to do that.

I'm actually surprised Autumn is doing as well as she is, especially at this house, setting in. We can be a little overwhelming..lol. Afterall there are 14 cats including Autumn and a 97lbs Drooler, who just loves kitties and can't quite figure out why the new members to the household aren't just thrilled when he wants to give them big sloppy drooler kisses to say hello...lol I really expected her to take a couple of weeks before she was going to want to come out and explore. But then again she is a Tortie, with plenty of Tortietude. Which is probably why she survived as long as she did without being treated.

In the short time I knew her, she seemed like such a laid back cat. I was very surprised that she was not freaking out after spending so much time with several people she didn't know and in a car. Hobbs is easy going and laid back and he even freaks out a little bit in the car. She just watched me for a few minutes and was like "Hmm. OK then" and went to sleep. She's a special little lady!!

Oh I suspect there is plenty of fire in Autumn once she is back to health...Part of her laid backness right now is just is just too weak to fuss and freak out much. But everyday I'm seeing a little more of the true Autumn emerge. I think I really named her correctly, she is going to have that cool breezy side of her with all the fire of fall foliage and her moods will shift like Autumn weather. Somedays warm and pleasant, other days stormy. As well as full of unexpected surprises and she gets back to her old self. She has already started showing me her more fiery side, if something isn't to her liking she isn't afraid to let you know about it. But she also can be incrediable sweet. She is definitely a curious little girl, she wants to be in on everything that is going on around her, just right now she doesn't feel strong enough to join in, but she will lay and watch me and the rest of the household, like she is making a study of the daily routines, learning everyone's personalities and deciding who she will like, who she will tolerate and who she will just plain avoid.

So glad to hear that things are going well for Autumn!! And that she's already learned how to manipulate you

Don't you just love new receptionists? Make sure when you go in with Autumn to let this one know you're the one they call about Feline Diabetes!!
