Good Morning Everyone! :-)

Reuben sat on my lap while I prepared the testing materials, and then we tested. dancing_cat Eventually I got around to finding a treat afterwards, but I don`t think he was even expecting one. What a sweet boy!!

Then, he couldn`t have cared less that I injected him while he ate a little shrimp. But, I want to feel more confident about my injection technique; should I put a note up saying 'Help! Injecting Tips and Tricks Needed Here..' like Jill so kindly did for me about home testing on the first day?

Reuben seems to feel fine; he is acting completely normal, except for still insisting on peeing on the bed during the night (which I avoided by waking up instantly when he would start, and whisking him off to the box).

Thanks to all of you who talked us through the fur shot last night

Happy Monday to All

P.S. - After the busy night protecting the bed from Reuben's confusion about its function (it is NOT a litter box!), I didn`t wake up in time to get any BG readings this last cycle. ohmygod_smile

Hi guys .. thats awesome you two are doing so well at test times! At first it's intimidating, but eventually we all find our way of doing it .. so sorry to hear about the bed/LB confusion .. is this something he has done all along, or something new? Do you think a vet visit might be in order? Hope you guys have a great day!

Alexa,

Ugh, we went through the peeing on the bed phase - and everywhere else that cost me gazillions of dollars for Nature's Miracle. Peter's point is very good: maybe you want to take him in to the vet if this peeing on outside the LB is new or is getting worse.

I would love to see another ketones test. I looked up what your test meant, and apparently, in neonatal humans that's not a good reading, but what I found wasn't the sort of information that told me anything about what the Neonatal ICU would do or whether it was an emergency. It's just that your cat is about the size of a newborn baby, ya know?

Sure, put up a request for help with injections and you can also do a search in the box at the upper right hand part of the page; browse the stickies, etc. There is a library on this site, and it has a lot of good stuff in it.

I'm so happy you are having success with testing Reuben! :RAHCAT

Have you managed to get any Ketosticks? If not, I suggest that you contact the hospital pediatrics unit or the neonatal unit. Maybe there is a kind nurse there who could help you find out where to get these. A gynecologist might be able to help, too. Your cat's BG is high, and it's important to get a ketones reading. Watch for the signs of ketoacidosis carefully at least, ok? Here's a link http://felinediabetes.com/ketones.htm

Some cats never have ketones no matter how high the BG is or for how long. Max's BG was really, really high, and it never happened to him that I was aware of. So, try not to worry if you can't find the Ketosticks, but be aware and keep it in mind.

Have a wonderful day.
