Is arugula a safe snack for diabetic kitties?
Yes, arugula. Our boy, Buster, loves it! :)
We took it out when we had to revamp his diet after DM dx last year. After all the pokes & meds, I'd love to reintroduce it to cheer him up a bit...

Buster is beautiful, and yes arugula is good but make sure is not in high amounts it can cause upset stomach that can lead to vomiting and diarrhea, are you feeding any commercial treats and kibbles? Buster's numbers are quite high, Corky also uses ProZinc, and if you are still using the Libre, note that this equipment has errors reading high numbers in the 390's if lucky, then it will read "High" and the lows are extremely lower reading than reality. Most members here use the ReliOn Premier human monitor and strips, it is good to have when you are using the Libre to have a backup, to double check., I am not a dosing expert or can or will advice on dosing, but it seems like 12 units is a lot of insulin and he is still so high, I will tag a member that has helped me since day one with Corky and dosing advice, she can review Buster's SS for you to see if we can regulate Buster to lower numbers, with a different method,:bighug::cat::cat:

Thanks, @CORKY. Corky is adorable.

Buster was just dx acro so we are mostly in that acro forum now. He's on a lc wet diet with rehydrated freeze-dried chicken & Churu tubes as treats. We use AlphaTrak3 for glucose checks & NoveMaxPlus for ketones.

Yes, @Suzanne & Darcy has been a HUGE help already while we try to figure out how to get his numbers down. We are researching treatments right now to try to get this under control.

Poor Buster has been through so much & it doesn't look like that is going to stop anytime soon. He deserves to get his arugula back!

There a couple of cautionary notes. If the arugula isn't organic, make sure you wash it thoroughly. It may have been sprayed with a pesticide.

Also, cats are obligate carnivores. They don't process plant matter terribly well. In addition, plant matter is a carbohydrate. So, keep the amounts limited.

Try cat grass too. It's easy to grow yourself. Buy some cat grass seeds and use a seed starting potting mix that doesn't contain fertilizers or other harmful stuff. Leroy must have been a ruminate in another life because he loves eating cat grass :p Then he throws it all up and eats more :facepalm:

That is so hilarious!

It’s not toxic to cats, but he could have a little bit (a couple of leaves) from what I’ve read. Sienne makes good points about pesticides (I only buy organic) and washing it, etc. A leaf or two won’t hurt, I think. I was making a dish tonight with spinach in it (Creamy Tuscan Garlic Shrimp with polenta and parmesan) and some raw spinach fell on the floor. My Siamese guy at it.

You will know if it upsets his stomach and probably if it affects his BG as well.
