Hi Lantus Land,

This is Linda and Bear Man writing to ask you for donations to LLEF in support of Bob's Arnie. Bob has not been able to post a lot here recently, due to his work schedule. Bob and Arnie (for those who are not familiar with them) are Lantus Land Old Timers. Arnie has been a diabetic for five years, and Bob and Arnie have been regulars in Lantus Land, here and on the old board, for most of that time. There could not be a more dedicated caregiver than Bob.

Bob posted yesterday on the Lantus Land forum on Facebook. Arnie is very ill. Bob will be taking him to the vet on Monday, the first day that his two jobs allow him to go, and LLEF will be helping pay for the visit. This is a potentially expensive appointment, and Arnie will likely need medications and follow up care. We are asking for donations to help Bob and Arnie.

Here is what Bob wrote on Lantus Land (Facebook) yesterday:

Arnie is not eating AGAIN! We have been through this twice in the past 2 months. Hoping he makes it through the weekend. He won't even eat the high carb stuff in gravy this time. Also seems lethargic and confused at times. WORRIED! :(

I hate to think the worst but he is showing many of the symptoms of chronic kidney disease; not eating, lethargic, meatloafing, squinting eyes, hiding, confused, reduced urination...been reading up on reasons why a cat won't eat and found a lot of his symptoms match those of CKD. Makes me want to cry, but I can't I'm at work! Praying for my boy!!!

He wasn't even tempted by tuna, tried some other friskies high carb stuff and he gave that a couple licks but still not eating anything. I will try to get some chicken later today and will keep giving 1/2 a pepsid tab
every 12 hours. He looks and acts weak. I know he has to be dehydrated. I just pray he can hold on until Monday morning. :(

This morning Bob has posted that Arnie is still only nibbling bits of food. Bob is extremely grateful for the help that is being offered to get Arnie to the vet. This is a very worthy cause, and I ask everyone to consider a donation, and also to send good thoughts for Arnie.

This fundraiser is still open and we are still seeking donations. We hope that the vet will see Arnie this morning.

Bob's update last night was not encouraging:

Not better.actually worse. not eating and getting weaker. Also seems very disoriented and confused. I got some water in him tonight. Just hope and pray he makes it until morning when I get home and he will be off to the vets.

This morning he wrote:

That was the longest night of my life!! Arnie looked so bad last night when I came home between jobs. I was worried all night that he might not make it through the night. He is no worse now than he was last night. BIG RELIEF!! I will have him at the vets in a few hours. I am sure they are going to hospitalise him. I am just hoping it is not as serious as it looks!!

If Arnie needs to be hospitalized, this will be an expensive vet bill. We have raised just under $400. We are still hoping that others will be able to contribute.

Bob has lost his beloved Arnie. The vet found a tumour on his spleen which was ruptured and bleeding. His heart was enlarged and one lung partially collapsed. Bob chose to let Arnie pass in his arms rather than suffer any more.

Fly free, Arnie, and go with the gift your Bob gave you...he took away your pain and took the pain as his own. Come to him from time to time on the wind and starlight, he will know it is you and be reminded that you are in his hear 'til you meet again.
 
I'm trying hard to keep my tears back since I'm here at work, but it's very hard. Losing Arnie is like losing one of my own.....I loved to hear the Arnie stories! Bob, you fought a good fight with him and you gave him everything a Dad could give. He knew he was loved until the end and beyond. Right now I know it feels as if your heart has been torn from your chest....but please remember that eventually you will be able to smile at the memories you have of your boy.

My heart has been ripped from my chest. OMG Bob I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, I can barely type for crying. You were such a devoted Dad to Arnie & he got the very best of love & care with you. I know it was so hard juggling his care w/your schedule & jobs but you did it because you loved Arnie so dearly. We all loved Arnie, he was part of Lantus Land when Tink & I first came here & I loved reading your posts. We will all miss him terribly.

Bob, I am so very sorry for your loss. You worked so very hard to make things right for your boy, and I know you are simply devastated. I'm sorry for your pain; I'm glad that you let your boy go so he won't suffer any longer. Tears for you both.
 
Bob I am so sorry. Remember through you Arnie had the life any kitty would be jealous of. I hope in time you can remember your good times and how he made you smile. I'm glad he was in your arms when he crossed to the bridge.

Bob, I am new here, and never got the chance to know Arnie, but we are all family in LL, and pain of losing a beloved kitty is the same, no matter if you know them or not. I'm so sorry for your pain.
