I've been posting on the Prozinc forum, but want to be present here too.

So I just discovered that the syringes that I have been frantically waiting to arrive for days, that finally came today just as i used my last syringe, are NOT what I ordered. They have no half unit markings. I am so furious. I can't dose him properly. I gave him 1.2 units tonight as this is the most accurate I can see on the U100 syringe (3 unit mark re conversion chart). I will have to order again. ARGH.

And his PMPS was 560 , the highest its EVER been. I gave him 1.2 units, its probably not enough. I am going to monitor him tonight.

Is it dangerous for his BG to be 560? I am scared.

No, short term high numbers aren't dangerous. As soon as you can get more middle of cycle numbers it'll be easier to assess dosage. A before bed test is important too to add you your database.
 
Thank Kris. He went 560 (31 mmol), 1.2 units, 3+ 370 (20), 10+ 490 (27).

His longterm problem with his breathing which is only when he purrs, is worsening daily, this morn it was shocking, groaning noises as he struggles to breathe and having to open mouth to breathe. :(. But as soon as he stops purring he is ok. Vets have done tests/xrays and cant find out whats wrong. I read online about cats with similar problem, some diagnosed with paralysis of larynx flap. I dont know from one day to next if he gonna survive. :arghh:
 
Hello! thanks for understanding how scary it is. I have been thinking of specialists alot, but am on welfare so dont think I could afford it. My vet said to focus on the diabetes right now, as he is too ill to be anaesthetised for MRI etc.

I am panicking cos his BG is rising to levels way higher than when he was diagnosed 3 weeks ago. Then he was 16-18 (ca 300) before starting insulin, but now is 28 and 30 (500s).
 
It’s good you started a spreadsheet. Once you get more data you and others will be able to see what is going on. He may be bouncing. That’s going into high numbers after dropping into low numbers because his body went into “panic” mode.
I would start testing for ketones. You can buy strips at Walgreens, Walmart or wherever diabetic testing supplies are. You may need to stalk your cat to catch him peeing. :confused:
 
that is good advice. I have ketone strips but havent tested him since last week, so I will do it again.
 
Make a note of the results in his SS. You will soon realize we are a nosy bunch when it comes to everything our sugar kitties are getting and doing. It’s nice to open a spreadsheet and see it al there when someone needs help. :D
