Hi,
My 12 year old civvie Budge seems to have developed a bad case of feline scabies. It started with a bald patch below one ear and now she has tiny "dandruffy" scabs all over the back of her head and neck - no hair loss except for the first patch. We are in Mumbai and our usual vet is closed. Due to the covid-19 lockdown here, we are unable to move around very much, so all consults have been on the phone.
My vet recommended a weekly application of "lindane" lotion diluted with water on the first patch. He said it was highly toxic to cats and so should be applied with care and not more often than once a week.
With the infestation spreading and after reading online that lindane is not recommended, I began to ask around. On the advice of two other vets, we have applied the Bayer Advocate Spot-on for cats, 4 days back. We also gave her a bath 10 days back. We don't get a lime-sulphur dip here.
Wondering if there is anything else I should do? I presume the Advocate spot-on will take a few days to get rid of the scabies mites and that I cannot apply it again for 4 weeks?
We also get a spot-on with selamectin (6% w/v) which I can try - presumably only after 4 weeks from the Advocate application?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This covid-19 lockdown has really limited the pet healthcare options we have here.
Thanks!
