I am going to check ask my vet about this this week for Newkitty.

She is already on Adequan once a week, Dasaquin BID and Gabapentin BID. She has luxating patellas too, so that does not help.

There are no vet acupuncturists in our area, but my sister found someone who does laser therapy. I am not sure how expensive it is though.

Just wondering if anyone had any experiences to share.

HI Allie, my cat Sitka has laser therapy on her hips and back when she started limping (she was just starting the Adequan so it was too soon to kick in). It was $300 for 6 treatments. My pet insurance wouldn't cover it stating it was "holistic" therapy. It did seem to help her feel more comfortable because the limping stopped after the 2nd treatment. Sitka got two sets of treatments and that bought her some time for the Adequan to completely kick in.

Thank you for the information! I am glad it helped Sitka! Do you remember the frequency of the treatments? Was it once, twice a week? Thanks so much!!

Two of my kitties have started laser treatments. Sillci has bad arthritic joints. Adequan injections IM have helped, however, the 2 things I've noticed since starting her on the laser is that she can now stand and eat instead of laying down, and I've seen her run. Unheard of for Miss Sillci. She's had 5 treatments. My other cat has had 6 treatments. He has severe spondylosis, was an uncontrolled diabetic, and has been down on his hocks since 2008. So I'm expecting treatment to take longer. He's doing pretty good bg-wise now that he's been on a steady dose of insulin. He also gets adequan which we started after 3 laser treatments. Vet didn't want to start too many new things all at once or we'd never know which was actually helping. I can tell you the laser helped the constipation. The two things I've noticed with him since the laser treatment is that he's no longer constipated and needing Miralax. Plus he isn't on pain meds. I believe the laser treatments are helping the nerve endings in that area so he can poo with ease.

Our vet charges $28.50 per session with no office visit fee.

There are a lot of articles out there about the therapy and its benefits. I'm going to try it next for a kitty with stomatitis. Vet says another clients of hers uses the laser treatment for that and then doesn't have to use steroids.

I know someone else on the board who just started using the laser for a skin condition on the ears. With one treatment the cat is showing improvement.

Our treatment schedule may be a little different than yours, but the first week they went 3 times, second week 2 times, third week 1 time, then monthly or as needed after that.

Hope this info helps you.

HI Allie - I did two treatments a week for 3 weeks. The vets office said that 3 treatments a week was the norm but I wanted to stretch it out a little more since I knew I couldn't do more than a limited number of them. Jan
