Hello Julius has been OTJ for almost 2 weeks. He is doing fine and playing however he is bouncing around from 27-38... my vet is concerned and so am I. Does anyone out there with first hand experience have any feedback??? thanks!! Everyone says he can't hypo without insulin, but why would his #'s drop after food sometimes? why do a lot of sites say 'normal is 40-120?? and that below 40 is dangerous???

Here is one kitty I remember from Lantus Land a couple of years ago: Pumpkin. Pumpkin ran in the 20's and 30's OTJ. She tried a couple of meters in case hers was off, and had Pumpkin checked by the vet. Everything was fine, so that must have been Pumpkin's normal range. It's not the usual, but it does happen occasionally. Does Julius seem to be feeling ok?

Hello, yeah I think so.... he is resting right now. He doesn't wobble when he walks or act like he can't see. He ran down the hall this morning for breakfast and my meter said he was 27...... I am just worried. The vet said he looked good yesterday... my husband gave him all the readings from when I was out of town and he didn't seem alarmed.... am I just worrying too much? He eats when ever I feed him, no hesitation. He isn't throwing up, he was playing with his mouse this morning..... maybe I am just a worry wart?

Oscar has been OTJ for about two years and his numbers were often in that range. I don't test him very much anymore, but I remember having the same worry you did. As others have said, this may just be normal for him. It sounds like he is behaving really well. In fact, I remember the one time the meter read "LO", Oscar was at the vet's and she said despite the low reading, he was very normal in behaviour. She didn't really understand it but then after that, he never got back to high numbers again. Try not to worry and enjoy his improved behaviour

Hey. I just posted a topic on this last week in "honeymooners" when Sweety read 31. Check it out - there was a comforting one about the ReliOn meter reading low. Do you use it?
And join the Worry-Wart club, ma.

My Stevie has been OTJ for three years... (knock wood) and I've stopped testing him... within months... I did for a while... once a week, or if he acted wierd... but after years with my Charlie, I just went to once a month and now reading this, realize it's over a year...

Rest, relax and pat yourself on the back that you helped him so quickly... watch for excessive drinking, peeing and weight loss, or that 'strange' behavior... then test... But people are right... can't hypo when not getting insulin.

Take a bow and enjoy your guy feeling great.
