Pearl has got to be more comfortable with her teeth situation but she is still miserably itchy around her chin and ears. The vet has mentioned trying cyclosporine but calls it the big guns. I saw a vet dermatologist talking about it being more tolerated by their cat patients than dogs but I was wondering if anyone had had success with it controlling itching here? I see topics on it being used for other issues when I searched but not allergies. She doesn't seem to itch anywhere else. It's all around her face. ANtihistimes have seen pretty much zippo results. Her bloodwork was excellent before her surgery this last week so I do not believe we have any kidney issues.

Re: Anyone had success with cyclosporine and atopic allergie

Hi Karen
One of my kitties is on cyclosporine. I don't know if I what I've learned can really help you as he is on it for another reason but I've done TONS of reading on this drug. Seems that atopic allergies is one of THE BIG reasons for which this drug is used. The reports on it seem promising from what I've read. I know that's not much help for you.

I don't really remember the dose that's recommended for what you are asking.

My Tang is on it for a questionable auto immune attack on his bone marrow. He is not producing WBC's. He can't be on steroids as we learned after putting him on them - he has cardiomyopathy too. Soooo - this is about the only drug we can try to help with what he is going thru. We have to have it compounded into a liquid that has to be mixed a certain way because of the drugs instability and how it is absorbed by the GI tract. It is NOT cheap. For us it's $189 about every 3 weeks. I can't remember the exact mg/ml concentration right now but we give 0.8ml and we have a 50ml bottle.

I'm at work right now but if you need more info - please let me know.
