Alright, here's the skinny. Dainty, my now 12 year old diabetic cat had to go to the emergency room several times two weeks ago. It started one morning that she was very disorientated and lethargic. She had vomited twice and had a very stinky diarrhea. During the day I called to make an appointment at my normal vet but they wouldn't see me for two days. Dainty wasn't looking so hot so I decided to take her to the emergency vets. She was running a really high fever so they gave her some fluids and then ran a couple tests. The found sediment in her urine that spoke of a possible urinary tract infection. We were prescribed amoxicillian and sent on our way. Several days later and the only thing that had changed was her temperature, it dropped down into normal ranges. Dainty however, still wasn't eating or drinking. I took her back into the emergency vet as our regular one was once again unavailable. The vet told me to give it some more time and then get rechecked. Two or so days later and Dainty was still the same. One evening though, I noticed a marked improvement in attitude. I thought this was great until I found her pill spit out on the floor. Meaning the change had happened because she hadn't taken her medicine. The next morning I was able to get into the see my vet. I was prescribed a different antibiotic and we did blood work (which thankfully came back negative for anything). I continued the new medicine for a week and almost right away Dainty was looking happy and healthy, she was also starting to take and interest in food again to my great relief. Her medicine regimen ended last Friday and I figured we were in the clear.
I woke up this morning to a ton of kitty vomit. Dainty has puked several times over the course of the day. She's not running a fever but she does puke about an hour or so after eating. I have called the vet office and my normal veterinarian should call me tomorrow. My question is I guess, has anyone else had something like this? Like a relapse? Or should I be suspecting a different problem? Should I skip my vet and go directly back the the emergency vet hospital. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have never gone through something like this before with her and am very worried about her well being.
