I had so much trouble testing Ti-Mousse as his ears had been almost frozen to death when I got him, so they were not bleeding at all! I tried so many things and the following finally worked, thanks to Ella: the most important thing is the ear has to be warm otherwise no blood will flow!
To warm the ear, I use a baby washcloth. I dampen it, put it in a plastic baggie, and microwave it for about 15 seconds (since all microwaves are different, test it on your wrist).
Fold the washcloth around his ear to warm it. When you fell the ear is warm, put a little vaseline on the place near the edge of the ear you plan to test (this will help to bead up the blood drop).
Blood flows from the tip of the ear down, so if you put a little pressure below where you plan to test, the blood drop will be easier to get.
Once you're done, fold the gauze pad around the ear and put a little pressure on it to stop the bleeding and to prevent bruising.
Always use Neosporin AB with pain relief. I put just a little after each test! As you're from Canada it's Polysporin Complete AB with pain relief!
The best place to poke is Sweet spots!
Good luck and be patient, he'll get used to the washcloth and you'll get used to judging the right temperature!!! If it worked for Ti-Mousse, it'll work for your kitty.
