Started my cat slowing on the Feline's Pride Raw Chicken about a week ago. I have half mixed it with his FF(less than 6%carbs). I feed him about every 4-5hrs about 1.5oz of food for a total of 10oz per day. He is 17.5lbs and a Maine Coon cat.

I noticed that when i feed him the raw diet, which he loves, his BG stays higher. Has anyone had this problem too? Binky's list said it is only 4carbs, but i'm beginning to wonder. Would love to hear from any of you that feed the raw diet and your experience with it.

Thanks!

Sorry, I actually make my raw diet food from Dr. L's recipe and haven't been able to figure out what the carbs are for that one.

I had wondered about the mixes though and how much they were different.

Hope you get your answer soon.

Did an experiment yesterday and only gave the raw diet 2x/day and the rest FF less than 10%carbs and his numbers went down. So it has something to do with the raw diet. Wish someone knew why it makes their BG go up when on the raw diet. He really likes it and it is so good for him

I've no experience feeding raw but it doesn't seem like a very significant difference in BG numbers to me. Your average of preshot vlaues from the 17th to the 21st is 307, the average of the preshot values from the 12th to the 16th (5 days before adding the raw food) is 301. There might be some psychological effect of seeing pink that makes it seem worse than it really is, during the raw time you had 7/10 preshots in the pink, only 5/10 in the days before the raw (one of these didn't change colour though). They were mostly borderline yellow/pink so not much difference overall.

Hard to compare though, the insulin dose did change and it's over a pretty short time period. Same reason I wouldn't read much into the lower values yesterday- it could be the 1.3u dose kicking in and it's just one day. Even with everything constant, BG values can wobble from one day to the next.

Thanks. This helps to see a different perspective on things. Still wish his values would be going lower. Maybe when i can up his dose a bit he will get an avg lower.

THanks so much!
