Hello. Thanks in advance. This is in reference to a cat already on wet food, low carb diet. Quick question with only the essentials (no background or glucose chart or anything like that attached). My sugarcat is on all wet, low-carb food and has been since she was diagnosed a few years' back. This is anecdotal or coincidence perhaps (since correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation), but I have noticed that when I increase her protein that her glucose will rise. For example, when I added extra, plain turkey to her food for a while, her numbers went up. When I took it away, they went down. The same thing happened when I started giving her bonito flakes for treats--as in immediate, next day big rises in glucose levels. This week, after the discovery of some pancreas issues (pancreatitis) I've switched from a food that was 57 percent fat to one that's 20 percent fat and no carb (Tiki chicken). Her numbers have gone up. Not a ton, but substantially. I know this could be related to the bout of pancreatits and stress, but there was an immediate change. And yes, this is weird since it's protein, but it's definitely something that I've noticed many times.
Has anyone else noticed this? Nothing else has changed; I swear. No extra carbs or anything.
Or maybe there's something happening in relation to a pancreas with exocrine isssues, as well as endocrine ones, that changes the way she's responding to protein?
Thank you in advance!
