Anybody remember what the "drugs to avoid" are?

There have been multiple discussions on these boards about different drugs to, in layman's terms, "avoid".

I know Dr. Lisa has posted about convenia. I have a standing order at my vet's for all my cats, NO CONVENIA.

Anybody remember any of the others?

Tink & I are off the to vet this morning, I hope. Most of the sores on her face have scabbed over, I clipped her nails so she is not digging at herself anymore, but now there is a sore on her neck, right were her collar would go, right where an e-collar would be attached.

When our Onyx was digging up his face the vet didn't put an e-collar on him for fear he would freak too badly and do more damage to himself. But once we had a dx and a treatment he healed up fine without it. So maybe Tink won't need to wear one either. Keeping fingers and paws crossed that it is something simple to fix and sending anti-ringworm vibes.

I actually watched and made sure that vet wrote it down on each chart......No Convenia and no Metacam......and they also know to ask me first before shooting anything into one of my cats or dog.

Baytril. Unless a C&S shows that it's the only antibiotic that will work, try to avoid it - it can cause blindness in cats.

So, Mel, was it ringworm that Onyx had that caused him to dig up his face? ~ Desi

Do you think it's ringworm? The oral med they give for that I'm not a fan of due to possible liver damage, I prefer the topical stuff for that.

ETA: I'm not a vet or expert, this is just my thoughts on the oral stuff.

Desi,

Nope in Onyx's case he was my last hold out on the dry food, turns out he was allergic to wheat (we had changed his dry when it started). We first started on pred, and then when we finally got him to switch over to a canned grain free diet we could finally wean him off the pred.

Be careful of anything that contains steroids. Most ear products are steroids and this can affect BG's.

While steroids may be necessary to give, be aware of what drugs those are and if there are other non-steroid options available that you could try.
