Anyone got any suggestions now that our success has gone pear-shaped?

LB has allergy problems and I wanted to see if he itched less off insulin.

I don't know if LB was less itchy without the insulin but his pancreas looks like it needed the support.

I suspect there are a couple of things going on. When you stopped shooting, you stopped at a dose of 0.5u. You needed to hold that dose longer than you did when you restarted. One day was not long enough. You then increased LB's dose twice in one day. All of those back-to-back changes would result in a wonky response in pretty much any cat.

Unfortunately, sometimes when you drop a dose or stop insulin, you may end up needing a higher dose than where you were previously dosing. This sometimes happens even if you've not stopped insulin. For whatever reason, what was an effective dose is no longer enough juice and you have to provide more insulin -- you have to go up higher before your cat's numbers come back down.

Yes, I handled it all very badly. Partly we aren't coping with everything all that well - too much going on. I'm just wondering what you think of this theory: giving too much insulin causes a higher production of glucogen by the liver causing numbers not to respond or even go up higher.

The problem has been that we have blindly and in ignorance, increased the insulin (panic reaction) and his numbers have continued to rise. Note that in december I trialled LB off and there was no chance in his numbers. i only put him back on insulin coz FDMB said I shouldn't have stopped his insulin according to the protocol.

In my own defence long term concentration of this illness is really hard to always have total and full objectivity and dedication to. Lot's of other demands and problems going on consecutively that sap our energy and determination

Do I just head back to the Qld protocol and try to work out what dose is best for LB. So far he's not drinking extra - he's just more hungry.
