I tested Ruby last night and her BG was 81. Yayy! :mrgreen:

My question is, as her kidneys get worse over time, should I expect her BG to go up?

These are her test results from Sept 13. The number in ( ) are the ranges our lab considers normal.

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) - 33.0 (14.0-36.0)
Creatinine (CREA)- 2.10 (0.6-2.0)
Phosphorus (Phos, P, or Pi) - 3.3 (2.7-7.5)
Potassium (K or K+) - 4.2 (3.4-5.6)
Calcium (CA)- 10.3 (8.9-11.7)
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) or Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) - I don't see this on the report
Hematocrit (Hct) or Packed Cell Volume (PCV) - 44.0 (27.0-48.0)
Thyroxine (T4)- 1.2 (1.0-3.0)
Blood Pressure BP - I don't see this on the report
USG - 1.028
 
I would not expect BG to go up if you do not change the diet.

That high of HCT indicates dehydration. With further kidney degradation, the HCT decreases since red blood cell production is controlled by a hormone secreted by the kidneys.
Do you have a urine specific gravity reading? That is a very good indicator of kidney degradation.
Otherwise, the values you posted are not bad at all.
 
Why would the vet not tell me she was dehydrated?? She diagnosed Ru as "mild renal insufficiency". All she said was to change her diet to one with lower phosphorus.

At the time her USG was 1.028
In December, when her BG was in the 400s and she had a nasty bladder infection it was 1.020, so it has gotten a teeny bit better.
 
Do you have a the total protein value from the blood work?
It is quite normal for chronic kidney deficiency kitties to be dehydrated.
The phosphorous looks good to me
 
Dr. K did do the pinch test and said Ru didn't seem dehydrated at the time.
We took her in for just a routine blood/urine work up. DrK was surprised when the tests came back the way they did. I'm going to have them redone in December, rather than waiting the recommended 6 months.

I don't have a total protein. If you look at the "Lab Test" results on our spreadsheet, I have her original tests from Dec of last year (when she scored the FD diagnosis) and then the ones from September. Those are all we have.

Total Protein (TP) 5.5 - 8.4 12/22/2011 7.2 9/13/2012 7.3

The TP is a little high which tends to also indicate dehydration.

Her water intake is slowing increasing over the past week. I wasn't able to check her BG this morning so I'll check it tonight to rule out that.
I'm really worried that her kidneys are getting worse, fast. :sad:

We have an appointment on Tuesday morning. I'm going to get the blood and urine done again and I'm going to request the FreeT4 or whatever it is, too, to make sure its not HyperT.
