Two years ago Mouse started having a very weird problem whenever he purrs, his breathing would get laboured and he became distressed and his deep rolling purr became like a metal hinge that needed oiled, horrible sound. Vets did lots of tests and couldnt figure it out. I tried everything under the sun, diet, etc. Sometimes it stayed the same for many months, but then would get worse, and in the last few weeks it has got very bad and he has difficulty breathing not only when he purrs.
Last week the vet said it could be tumours (although nothing could be seen in x-rays in April). I am hesitant to put him through the full sedation/anaesthetic again to get more x rays done, and even if they found tumours, at age 16 would i put him thru chemo?

I bought medicinal hemp oil from a reputable company, especially for pets, but it tastes vile and he shuns it in every clever method I've tried. Although he did eat ONE drop in his food when i sprinkled parmesan on it (thank you Djamila!)
i am thinking of putting a drop onto his paw/lower leg, cos then he will lick it off/clean himself. Yuck poor kitty! Its safe to give it pure like this, just worried i am being super mean.

Have you tried mixing it with cream cheese or tuna water from a tuna in water can? I've found out either of them disguise pretty much everything

Also I would give it a thought about chemo with the more o less recent procedures many dogs and cats can go through it with almost no problems or discomfort but this is just a thought I really don't know all of his circumstances

Has anyone proposed scoping his throat? It will require at least a moderate amount of sedation. I've had it done to me and the gag reflex is very unpleasant. This is how polyps are seen, not by x-ray. I'm pretty sure they can be benign and it's usually a little snip-snip and it's over.

Have a look at this. It's an entire Google search page, not just one site but every hit describes polyps as benign and describes the exact symptoms you described. That's just something to start with and give you hope. It's dinner time here, I can't go any further. Good luck.

Thank you so much for this info! I am researching it right now..
