Some of you know my daughter adopted a cat from DCIN. He is a Siamese that is already OTJ after 2 weeks at the foster home! Buddy was in GA & we live in VA. DCIN arrainged for him to be driven up to us, he arrived this evening. I just wanted to say Thank you to all of the drivers but especially our own Lu-Ann. She drove from her home North about 90 miles, then back South, going past her town to meet me on I95 today with Buddy! I was so happy to get to meet her, even though it was outside a gas station & we only spent 10-15 mins together. The foster mom & another person drove quite a distance to get him here also. I just wanted to let everyone on PZI know how grateful I am to Lu-Ann for so selfishly giving her time to a kitty in need. Thanks to all the people out there that help so many kitties. There is a special place in heaven for all of you!

And since Kim lives near Lu-Ann she got to meet Buddy briefly!

There are lots of angels amoung the board! o:-)
I remember reading Buddy's story. He is a beautiful cat! I waanted to help him so bad, but geographicaly it wasn't possible.

I am so happy to hear he is going to be well taken care of.

Best Wishes to Buddy!
Enjoy your new loving home! cat_pet_icon

Barbara -

No need to thank me. The pleasure in helping be a part of Buddy's transfer was one of the most rewarding things I've done!

I've worked several years with our local United Way campaign as well as other charities. It's one thing to "give" to a cause, but to me, it's even more important to "do" for the cause! Some folks can't always donate money, but when there's something we can do, especially those things that only require a little time, it would be a shame to miss out on being part of such a worthwhile endeavor!

Although flying a cat - unaccompanied - could be a means to an end, Buddy got to ride with a couple of us, like the little person being chauffered (yes, at one point when he laid down in the back seat, I kinda felt like that!). He was perfect company, I met new people (that also love their pets!) in the process, and he wasn't alone on a scary trip!

Because NC doesn't have strict spay/neuter laws, there are an abundance of AMAZING pets that have found themselves at kill shelters. Fortunately, I have several friends who do rescue locally. Two girls that I worked with on "Bark for Life" - the American Cancer Society dog event fundraiser - drive about 40 rescues (dogs & cats) to PA regularly, where there are waiting homes for them! They have inspired me, although I can't keep with their schedule! I've always known I probably wouldn't do well with fostering, as I wouldn't be able to give them up! But our local fosters also need time away, so I've done several weekends for them, keeping a couple dogs at my house and helping out (feeding/turn-outs) with others. There are SOOOOOO many opportunities on every level that are out there if you want to do something to help. I thought the the relay transport that DCIN uses was such a great thing, I volunteered to do it again, and I encourage each of you, if the situation arises, to do the same if you can! Or find something that fits your life... and be a part of something as worthwhile as helping a wonderful pet get to a loving new home!

It's heartwarming to hear how well Buddy has adapted to his new home and toys! I'm just glad to have been a part of it!

Lu-Ann
