Hi everyone , I updated Angels ss. should I lower her dose??

I just checked her at 2:40pm and she was 77! is that a bit low for 6hrs?? nailbite_smile
her am and pm seem to be high too.

Hi I just took t she was 398 I had to take it a little earlier because she was starving I did lower,her a couple drops. Do you think that was ok ,??

Diana....I am wondering if the 77 was possibly a bad strip. That can happen sometimes. If you happen to get a BIG drop like that again, wait 15 minutes and test again to make sure of the number.

She is back in the pinks tonight. You gave her a little bit lower dose tonight....correct? She should be fine. Try to get a test before bed...might be able to confirm if the 77 was due to a bad test strip.
 
I think that's fine. You want to feel she is safe. The 77 is actually a great midcycle number. The next time you see one in that range just give her a little snack and retest in 30 minutes, as Misty said, to be sure she is rising, not falling. You really don't need to worry unless you see a number in the 50s. If that happens, do the food, retest routine until it rises. If it would fall, give some gravy off high carb food. If it would continue to fall, honey on the gums. Most often, you can steer any low numbers higher just with food.

But the first one, out of the blue, is scary. Next time you will be prepared.

Looks like she bounced right away! She should come back down. I'd continue with the one unit, as long as you are around to monitor. If you can't watch her, then maybe a tiny bit less?
 
Thanks again ,I have to leave tomorrow in the afternoon, so I will do the 1u as I won't be here to check her if she gets too low..

Angel was 420 again this morning could she still be bouncing even from a tiny bit less insulin?
But she is eating good and no vomiting now for 10 days! :-D
 
Some cats bounce for a cycle, some cats bounce for several. The more numbers you get, the better you'll be able to figure out her pattern.

So glad she is eating and keeping it down better!
 
If it makes you feel any better, Simon was a master at HUGE drops down into green numbers at nadir coming from pinks. Sometimes he would go down 300 points in 4 or 5 hours in the very beginning. Now he is doing great! It is the pancreas getting used to the insulin and the lower numbers. Simon bounced pretty often for several months until his pancreas woke up and decided to do the work. Keep up the great work and testing gives you confidence in shooting lower numbers eventually. The more data, the better! Good job!
 
Depending on your schedule, you might do a trial of dosing every 8 hours (TID) to see if that helps level out the swing a bit. Note that this means you are overlapping the last 3rd of each shot (up to 4 hours) with the beginning effects/onset of the next shot.

If you want to test this:
Take the total daily insulin amount (am + pm doses combined), and divide that sum into thirds.
Round down to amounts you can measure fairly well such as 0.25 units.
Give each shot as close to 8 hours apart as you can.
In addition to pre-shots, check around +5 for as many of the shot cycles as you can.

You'd want to revise the time numbering in a strip above the TID section and you could use the paint roller to copy the format from the glucose and unit cells into different locations to match the schedule.
 
Thanks for the hint..and checking up on us..

Yesterday evening we were 65miles from home. so I didnt get a chance to check her.. family thingy,
anyway I got home at 10:30pm and didnt check her as I had checked her at 2:45 and she was already 304. So I gave her 1.1 at 10:30pm this morning she was 339 at 9:00 am. gave her 1.0 then as it was an hr and half early..
I was thinking of not checking her this afternoon unless she looked funny..

Poor things ears are needing a little rest.. I know its important. but she seems a bit more stable now.. I will check her tommorow. aft . if thats ok??

I feel bad for her having so many pokes... :cry:

I would never give her insulin without checking her number first. Look at any of the spreadsheets on this page and see how often the cat throws a lower number than expected, out of the blue. If that happened, to avoid a hypo, her ears would have to be poked every 30 minutes for several hours. You can get a midcycle number less often, although the data is always good.

If her ears seem sore, have you tried putting on neosporin with pain relief? Just a tiny smear should help.
 
Yes I know you are right , I do use the neo cream with pain relief for her. She was a bit high tonight. 446, :roll: now where did I put those Pants? I will get an afternoon check tomorrow.
 
After you've grabbed the droplet for her test, press firmly on the hole. This reduces seepage into the surrounding tissues, as well as reducing scabbing.

Oh ... and then wash your hands!
 
Thanks for the Info, I usually grab her ear for a sec, with a tissue, then a dab of neo. The other day I was getting a new bag of syringes and somehow one of the caps had fallen off and I stabbed myself in the finger! Ouch! ran and tested myself 87 :-D
