Andy 3/9 dosage advice?

Andy is responding well to the lower doses. He is even bouncing occasionally on the .8u which makes it seem that he needs more insulin - I have been trying to test before the 5 to 7 window and he does drop quite a bit before - I think the .8u is possibly too high - looking for some dosage advice - thank you.

He is an interesting kitty! So, on the mid 250s, 0.5 looks okay at night but not during the day. But you are so right, Yvonne. Just a smidge seems to make a difference. The 175 is a great number today, but that big of a drop is also likely to cause a bounce. Although he will probably prove us wrong and continue on down......

I wish he was consistent enough to try some of the PZI alternatives. Like dosing 3 times a day for a few cycles to keep that preshot down but then he throws you a yellow preshot every so often. (we think about 3 times a day when the insulin doesn't seem to last long enough.). There's dosing 11/13 when one preshot is consistently lower than the other; that doesn't apply. He isn't even a consistent bouncer!

You have tried feeding the low to avoid a jump, right? So when you see a blue that represents quite a drop, give him a little regular low carb in the hopes it will help him surf along awhile.

The other variable that makes it so hard to use his past cycles for dosing is that he could be a late reactor. So we make a change and it takes a few cycles for him to react. Meanwhile we are adjusting..

I do not understand his high preshots (sometimes). His daytime numbers look okay.

How far are you away from the end of the vial? I am thinking he needs the longer flatter cycles of one of the depot insulins. You have tried everything and things that should work, but he just doesn't react the way we would think he should.

I just tested and he is at 157 - gave a few pieces of chicken - will retest in 1hr.
We just started a new vial of pzi. He was originally on Lantus but again on those high doses, 6+ units - that's why we switched to pzi - I think they started him too high on the Lantus just like they did with the pzi and it was a vicious cycle from then on.
The other night, we did try 1u (w 100 syringe) when he was high mid-cycle but that was all guesswork on my part and I fear really messing him up :( - and I do think he is a "late reactor" as you said so am trying to be patient. So close but no cigar yet!

I don't think you are hurting him in any way, Yvonne. He is below the renal threshold a good part of most days. Yes, he has high preshots, but he comes down. I just wish we could figure him out. :banghead:

One thing affecting his night cycle is he always gets a bedtime snack around +4 to +5 when all the other cats get theirs. The only time I give him one in the day cycle is if I catch his numbers going down too fast or if we are going away that day. I am thinking maybe add a regular day snack at +4 to +5 similar to the night cycle to see if it helps even him out a bit. ??
