Andy 2/2 - update

It's been a few days since I've posted. I have been dealing with another sick kitty. Andy is doing ok but still needs improvement. But I am getting encouraged as he appears to be bouncing less. Last night is a good example: he got down to 136 and was only 360 this amps (unless he planned to go higher than 360). I started dividing his meals more so I am reserving a portion of his normal amps and pmps meals and giving that as snacks in between. I think (hope) it worked last night. Any feedback on his current ss #'s is appreciated and also any pros/cons on feeding more than 2 times a day. I assume feeding extra would flatten the curve somewhat - is that good or bad. I tried searching but got lost in weeding thru all the info. Thx a bunch!

Lots of people feed several small meals a day and feel it does flatten out the curve, so I hope it works for Andy too. He does seem to be bouncing less, but it would be good if he was lower overall. Wonder how he would react to a small dose increase overall? Maybe add 0.2 to your scale for each gradient?

I think feeding more than twice a day is a good thing. I know I eat more than twice a day. How to portion it out is still work in progress for me. I'm trying to reduce his +8 or +9 portion size but he isn't having it. You will have to experiment and see what Andy will tolerate.

Hi Sue - agree - I did take him up to 1.2u last night and with the extra meal think it helped. Will see how he does today with that. Maybe that will help with his bouncing. :nailbiting::nailbiting:

My guy is so voracious - he spends most of his time checking out the counters and where the other cats eat looking for crumbs. I feel so sorry for him. Maybe feeding more often will help that too. Just started this. It's all a work in progress for us too! Thx.

Yvonne, how much in total is Andy getting in a day? Is it possible he might need more food overall?
He gets 1 3oz in both am and pm. Then for snacks around +5 or +6, maybe 1/4 of 3oz or 1/4 of 5.5 depending on bg#. The 3oz is Instinct 95% and the 5.5oz if EVO 95%. If he is too low, I use those dried Purebites chicken or salmon. He barely weighs 7lbs.

Besides feeding a small snack at nadir as Sue mentioned, another option is to load up till nadir and then maybe a small snack at +9 only. Same theory as Sue indicated but actually giving more food in the first six hour time frame and maybe one little snack or none in the last six hours of the cycle. It is what your Andy would tolerate. With Merlin, he seemed to be more hungrier the first six hours of the cycle and not as much in the last half.
